Hey Mithel,

don't know if answered/asked before, but:

How is the efficiency of the provincial flak batteries, if you significantly increase all the attack/ defense values.

Do I have to change something anywhere or where have you changed something to bring them up to efficiency?

I'm a perfectionist and I'm critical of vanilla HoI, thus I am even more critical of myself when I blunder. {smile}

Just getting prepared to play a multiplayer game yesterday I spotted several issues that I'm surprised nobody pointed out (more clearly) previously.

Cpack, researching the AA techs increases their effectiveness. (i.e. you can mod the research file to boost them if you desire)

Arrgh, I know, wrong explained from me, what I mean is:

If you make all the battles longer, and therefor increase all the values of f.e. antiair of the units by factor ten, also the defense values of the units by factor 10, are the province aa only 1/10 of effectiveness, because you can't increase this values like for the units?

Just a quick few comments Mithel, I started playing starfire again after a lengthy hiatus.

Random observations (mainly for the China and Japan war)

-China's head of government is Wang Chonghui (Who?). Where's Chiang Kai Shek? (Bug present in Vanilla 1938)

-March/April 1938 was actually the high point for the Chinese, with the beginning of the battle of Taierzhuang, with the destruction of about 2 Japanese divisions (in game, province 1218, Xuzhou), by 10 divisions of NRA and Guangxi troops under the overall command of Li Zongren.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Taierzhuang

-Nationalist China should also control Kaifeng (id 1223), which wasn't captured until May 19th according to this Chinese site-http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/doc/2005-05/08/content_440066.htm

The net probably isn't the best source of info as regards to the China-Japan war, lots of rather biased stuff out there. I might be able to get a better updated OOB for the Nationalist Revolutionary Army if you need it.

-Chongqing (Chungking, the capital, id=1280) has no industry- It might be worth moving some of the industry in Nanjing (1235) to Chongqing, but don't want to change the balance of power too much. The chinese evacuated some, but not all of the industry from the Shanghai region to Chongqing.

-Should the Commonwealth (particularly Australia and New Zealand) get some kind of gearing up events if Japan blitzes across China? Historically, Aus and NZ raised relatively little infantry divisions until war with Japan, but if Japan enslaves the most populous nation in the world for its war of asian conquest, things probably would have been different.

-In regards to the US gearing up for war, would it be possible to use the industrial efficiency command to beef up the US after the war has gone on for a certain period? Eg, In 1943, after Henry Kaiser was made head of the Kaiser committe to organise US production. You might have to drop US industrial efficiency before this in order compensate.

command = { type = industrial_modifier which = total value = 5 }

-I noticed that the UK was paying half price for the Battleships in its build queue. I assume this is to encourage the player to build historically, as otherwise they just cancel the ships and build other stuff. (It is worthwhile cancelling the CAGs in the build queue, as they take far longer than if you just build them from scratch)

Base to Base Transports

Here's a thought I just had- have different levels of transports represent different classes of transport ships. Level 0 could be the standard fast-converted luxury liner transport ship, and level 1 could be amphibious assault craft such as the LSI.

Here's how it could work- Transport 0 could have a very low range, say 100km or 50km. This would be totally unsuitable for any amphibious assault, even in the English Channel, but as the range is infininite when using the "rebase" command, a player would have no restrictions moving troops from base to base. Thus massive armies could be moved, but ONLY from a naval base to another naval base.

Landing ships with any kind of range (eg, default 3000km) would be significantly more expensive, say about as expensive as a heavy cruiser, and would only be available in small numbers to naval powers early on.

The second teir of landing craft could be available via a tech which the AI would not research (AI has infinite naval range anyway), as otherwise the AI would only build the highest level model.

Do you think such a system would be a workable way of moving large numbers of troops around, whilst limiting the numbers of craft used in amphibious assault?

The main upside to this would be that Naval bases would be absolutely crucial for landing large forces of any kind, unless a very large investment in expensive landing craft was made.

Some other random general thoughts

-Hong Kong, ID 1315, is an Island Urban province, which makes it very difficult to take for Japan from the UK- a small garrison is virtually impregnable, if a player is smart enough to stock up on supplies. Paradox made it hills in 1.3, I'd suggest making Hong Kong either hills or else give a connection as a strait.

-Later in the war Japan launched amphibious landings in the south to capture Guangzhou. To mimic this, I'd suggest adding a beach to Bao'an (Id 1314) to allow for this assault to occur.

-Owing to the high cost of assuming military control, it's impossible to take control of any of the warlord troops, which means they can basically be written off for defence purposes. Would it be possible to add some of the warlords to Nationalist control, like Xibei San Ma, and the Guangxi Clique, which did actually cooperate fairly closely with the Guomindang?

-Shanxi is one province away from annexation by Japan/Inner Mongolia. The Chinese Ai simply annexes Shanxi, but for a human China these troops are then lost forever. Not sure what to do about it though. The released puppet Shanxi covers roughly the area controlled by the puppet Japan established in Northern China.

Although I'm "no longer modding HoI" there was significant work done for F6 and I figured I should release this to the public.

A major change is a complete rewrite of the French land OOB to historic forces. Note: this unbalances the game further as it weakens France relative to the rest of the world.

See the webpage for the long list of improvements made.

Ive started a mod based on this amazing mod  go check it out and give me your input. Thanks for making starfire!

Hi Mithel,

i heared, you stopped modding HoI2. Bad...

One question i have. Will Starfire work with Doomsday ?
And if not, is there any chance you make a new DD Version of Starfire ?
