As already stated: The game will start after the Norman conquest of England in 1066, and end in 1453. I can't see why this should be changed. I would love to see the earlier period covered by a new game though :)

The time frame is excellent IMHO.

And BTW, I think they are planning on making a game covering the Vikings later :)

Actually, the first game Paradox made ever was a Viking game :) ("Havets Vargar" IIRC)

The Kingdom of Dublin was still a fairly important factor in the island's politics, although it is true that it was nowhere near as important as it had been before 1014. Dublin existed as an independent state right up until the time of the English invasion under Henry II.

But wasn't the Kingdom of Dublin just really Dublin city by then? Were the other cities like Wexford even paying tribute/homage to Dublin?

Was Havets Vargar a Viking game? I remember when it came out and if my memory isn't completely gone I think it was _not_ a Viking game. Can someone inform me about that?

Further, it did have effect on the rest of Europe. William the conqueror was a vassal of the French king and had his duchy in France. This (English land in France) was one of the causes to the 100 Years' War. That was _one_ example.

A dynasty line of Wilhelm is not the same line who quarelled in 100 Years War. So you can't trace it to 1066. Of course that frenchlike Normans who colonized England gave that war resemblance of civil war but there is too far going "what if". A new dynasty in Englad could bound to some french dynasty on many ways and war could broke out easily.
So 1066 had effect only on France, England and symbolically on Scandinavia. If we want to quarrel about date it makes no sense.
I agree about the date like I've written earlier - medievial Europe is generally founded at this times. I'm happy that enddate will be 1453 however 1419 has some influence too.

I don't suppose 1066 will begin with an event where you can choose William the Bastard, Harold of Norway, or Godwinson as king of England. I'd love to play a more Nordic-centered England, it would be a lot of fun.

BTW, anyone have any ideas of how the Holy Roman Empire works here? I'd like ot be Emperor and unite my vassiles into an actual Kingdom of Germany, instead of just possessing the title but no power.

I think it decided that the game will start after the Norman conquest, thus ruling out the two latter.

I assume that if you have enough prestige you can, as Emperor, command your vassals around as you like.

"Havets Vargar" was not a viking game. The scenario "Östersjön" started 1500.

I hope so. Otherwise it´s going a bit ahistorical to quickly IMO.

Starting off the game in an ahistorical manner would surely have great effects on the historical accuracy of the last 100-200 years.:) So post conquest is a good decision.

And yet, what if Harold defeated both his opponents...

Well, if Paradox leaves the "back door" open**, it wouldnt be too hard to create a scenario starting in 1040 or 1. January 1066, and you can go crazy with your viking hordes in Britain! :D

** Meaning the ability to edit the starting date, and the same ease of editing the game as EU2.

Actually, I have the feeling this game won't be able to simulate "Viking hordes" very well. But as I said, I think we can expect something like that in the future. :)
