every time i try to load EU: Rome (not gold or vv) the game crashes while loading. It gets to the map properly initialized screen then goes blank and says the game has stopped working. No message comes up saying why or what was wrong, it just says the Rome has stopped working. Anyone know why this keeps happening?

And i have downloaded the update, before that the game didn't even start loading.

Make sure you have the very latest DirectX 9.0c sub-version; you have to download the installer (dxwebsetup.exe), save it to a local directory, and then run it.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en

Please run DXDIAG, Save All Info, and post dxdiag.txt here (first delete everything after the Sound Devices section so it will fit). Also post your Rome/settings.txt and Rome/logs/system.log files. Note that if you use Vista/Win7 and have installed the game in the suggested folder c:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\, the active versions of these last two files will have been redirected by Vista/win7 to a non-system directory, like c:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis - Rome\, where [name] is your Vista/Win7 user name. You may have to search your C: drive for them.

And ive downloaded the newest versions of DirectX and DirectXSDK and i cant find that file.

Edit that settings.txt and change refreshRate=0 to =60 .

Are you saying you downloaded dxwebsetup.exe but can't find it? If the above doesn't help we really need to run that, as Vista comes with DirectX10 only and we need 9 to be there too. Maybe download it again and choose somewhere easy to find to save it, like your Desktop. Then just double-click on it to run and install.

To generate dxdiag.txt click on Start - Run, type in dxdiag and run it. Wait til it finishes loading and click on Save All Info, which will let you write out dxdiag.txt

I have the dxwebsetup.exe but i couldn't find the dxdiag file

Found dxdiag and saved it and changed the refresh rate hope it works

OK, that video driver is ancient. You need to check with Acer or AMD for updates (I couldn't find that card model on the AMD website).

It works! Thank you very much. Ive been trying to get this game to work for a very long time now
