Hello everybody!

I played a few games (USA, Prussia-Germany, Uruguay and a terrible attempt at France) and decided to try Russia.

Since i have no idea about playing Russia and i heard its quite unique I would like some tips please. Ill list some of my goals and concernes so you can tell me if you think they
are doable/beneficial:

1) take some ottoman satelites and land so Russia becomes the leading power on the Balkans
2) assist Denmark and Sweden at every turn and help them become Scandinavia
3) feed China money and tech so i can use them as allies if i decide to take parts of British india
4) prevent german unification (by helping austria beat prussia in their war)
5) take parts of austria that have large populations of my culture
(btw is it possible to force Austria to release Hungary and then make them my satelite?)

Please, leave some comments on my goals and perhaps even some hints how to reach them.

I dont have a clue how to start (taxes, industry etc.) and the vicky wiki has general tips but nothing specific. Could any of you please tell me the first few steps to take?

thanks people

Go for Tsar of All Slavs events.
This means you have to occupy all of the Balkan capitals, so that means occupy Belgrade etc, and the entire Turkish Balkans. Plus Constantinople. Best event in the game:cool:
If you play VIP, then try to choose liberal options for the Polish Uprisings.
This will allow you to make Poland a state culture!
How cool is that?! Then you can have fun trying to liberate the Poles in Prussia and Austria because only Russia is where Polish culture is accepted!

actually the acceptance of polish as state culture and the prospect of "liberating" them from german/austrian lands makes me think about getting VIP. I think ill get it eventually but not yet :rolleyes:

what exactly does Tsar of All Slavs give me?
I didnt know that there is such an event but i was planing on doing something like that anyway (something like pan-slavic roleplaying)

How should i start my economy?

Make sure you set your taxes to 49% (higher and your people are more likely to revolt). Set your Tariffs and education to max. You may need to lower the army budget for the first few years (you shouldn't be fighting wars yet anyways).

As a rule of thumb, try to research about 1 Commerce Tech for each Industry Tech. If you research a bunch of industry techs, you may not have the budget to be able to support your growing industry.

Is it enough to occupy the Balkans+Constantinopole or do i have to own them? Do i need to occupy Zagreb as well? Since most of Croatia is on the Balkans... but that would mean a premature war with Austria

you shouldn't have to fight Austria.
#########################################################################
# Tsar of All Slavs
#########################################################################
event = {
id = 2504
random = no
country = RUS

picture = tsarslavs

trigger = {
exists = TUR
# Control of the Turkish Balkans
OR = {
control = { province = 921 data = RUS } # Sofija
satellite = { country = BUL country = RUS }
}
OR = {
control = { province = 930 data = RUS } # Beograd
satellite = { country = SER country = RUS }
}
OR = {
control = { province = 939 data = RUS } # Tirana
satellite = { country = ALB country = RUS }
}
OR = {
control = { province = 971 data = RUS } # Constantinople
satellite = { country = TUR country = RUS }

OR = {

satellite = { country = ROM country = RUS }
satellite = { country = WAL country = RUS }

NOT = {

}
}

So it looks like you can't be in aliance with Greece, you either control Turkish Balkans or Sofija, Bucuresti, Constantinople, Tirana, Beograd.
So take over every province in the Balkans, I don't think this includes Greek Islands or other islands.

I'm actually in control of turkish balkans and even part of Turkey East of Constantinopole. Im not controling their satellites though... that might be the trick.

edit: just got the event... now i have rebelions poping everywhere :D dont know what to do. btw is it good for russia to become something else than an absolute monarchy?

talking about whack a mole... the liberal revolution is busting my empire...

im a con mon, voting based on wealth, censored press, allowed public meetings, anarcho-liberals in power (tried liberals too) and political p. are on right to ban...

is there any way to avoid the liberal revolution? Because i know when i played the USA that i had everything set up very liberal and i still got 20 plurality (that was good with the US but its horrible with Russia)...

edit: i managed to survive the revolution... it took me 7 years but i didnt kill off many of my subjects.. i almost mobilised but im saving that for prussia-around 250 000 soldiers are on the border with 120 divisions ready to mobilise.

tried liberal as well but it didnt work...
anyway...i lived through the revolution, beat prussia in the slesvig question, the german-danish crisis (scandinavia is my ally now) and then in the german leadership too (austria and i took all prussian lands very quickly). i took 8 provinces and humiliated them 2 times. soon ill declare war with the cost of 1 prestige and take some more of prussian lands to hopefully lower their industrial score...

luckily i avoided the crimean war because i got "tzar of all slavs" in 1840 (i guaranteed independence to egypt) :D

perhaps i should take most of europe gradualy? what do you think?

hehe and just for fun i annexed hawaii just in case i need a staging point to invade the USA. i guess im not aiming for wc but ill kinda keep playing aggresively and see how i end up...
