Hi.

I have the Scandinavian version of Europa Universalis (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish), but the game simply won't go beyong the intro movie. After it's finished, the game returns to the desktop, returning no messages whatsoever. I've tried it on three different computers but still no result. Has anybody else had this problem?

So do I, but it's different everytime I try. Sometimes the game starts right away, other times I have to try 5-10 times. Also with the 1.08 patch.

We would need some more information from you who posted this to be able to look into the problem.

Could you email all information from dxdiag - Save all information (Start => Run => dxdiag => 'Save all information') to support@europa-universalis.com. The text file is very helpful for us to see if there may be problems with drivers etc.

Btw, Are you able to play the CD as a normal audio CD on your PC?

Someone posted in a strategy Newsgroup about solving his problem with this.
He said that the game would play the opening movie then drop to desktop.
He worked out that it was the Auto Insert Notification for the CD player. Apparently, after playing the movie, it would try to initialise the auto insert again and crash.
He solved it by turning the Auto Insert Notification off.
You might like to try.

Control Panel/System/Device Manager/
select your CD Rom
Properties
Settings

Sorry about the above directions but there are people who do not know where it is.

Hope this helps someone.

I've got the same problem as you guys, but even worse..
When I start the game, all I get is a dark screen for a couple of seconds and then it returns to the desktop. I've got the scandinavian version (installed the norwegian version) and I've tried to turn off the AIN with no luck..

Still have to admit that I'm very puzzled by this...

Patric

Its very strange.
It appears to have helped at least one person though - Although it may have been pure coincidence.

DxDiag....Still want it

Hi

I have the same problem...I tried to Uninstall Direct 8.0, and reinstall 7.0, but that didnt work either.....Does any of you have the solution?
How about returning the Danish version, and getting an english one?
Patrick if you are still with us...Have you got the information from DxDiag or should i mail it to you ATT: Patrick? Do you have any idea, on how long it is going to take to get this the running?

I can see im not the only one with this problem...I bet we all have different systems, so could all of you please email me your specs. Using DxDiag....plus i want to know if if you have a DVD-ROM drive. Then we could gather all the information, and send it to the support.

wont start

Hi,I am really looking forward to play EU ,but the game wont start. At first ,after the installation, the cd just kept spinning and the game didnt start.I installed the newest patch and now the screen turns dark and it still wont start.I have a good system(PIII 800,128meg,32meg,DVD-rom)I even shut off the autodrive
Whats wrong???

black screen

I finally heard the movie music, but the screen is still totally black even when i bypass the movie and gets/what i think) is the main menu.Had similar problems with alpha centauri but then it was only movies

I have the same problem, the game crash to the desktop after the intro movie. I have updated the drivers for my soundcard (Soundblaster Live Value), my graphics card (3Dblaster RIVA TNT2 ULTRA) and my motherboard (EPOX 7KXA). Also installed the latest DirectX. Tried this cd auto insertion trick too, but still the same. The most irritating is the lack of error messages. Almost every kind of software gives some kind off error messages back when it crash. Is this problem going to be fixed in the 1.09 patch, and if, when is it released?

At last I got the game beyond the intro movie. I simply ejected the CD once the intro sequence started. The game only need some verification key on the CD, the intro sequences are runned from the harddrive. The downside is that you won't get any music, but you get sound effects. I have an AOpen 40x CD, which is one of the most common in Norway at least. I guess this copy protection key on the CD messes things up. BTW, Support, I'm able to play the CD as an audio CD.
