Startup problem

I bought the german version of EU yesterday, installed it, downloaded the latest 1.08 patch and installed this too. If I try to start EU my screen turns black for about 2 seconds and then ... nothing happens, I'm find myself thrown back to the windows desktop.

What is wrong?

My system:

PIII 600, 256 MB RAM, Asus V6600 DDR, Nvidia driver 6.50, Windows 98 SE, DirectX 7.0a


Please help me, I'm eager to start playing EU...

Is your cd drive set to a letter below U by any chance?

Yes. I set my drives to X: (DVD) and Y: (CD-Writer) respectively.
I hope that I don't have to change this since I installed many
applications with these settings.

There is a problem in 1.08 and earlier that prevents drive letters above U:, this is fixed in 1.09 that will go online later today.
