Jag har precis köpt spelet, och pillade lite med det nyss. Jag spelade Sverige i 'den stora kampanjen', krigade med Danmark som innebar Status Quo (enligt spelet). Efter Status Quo-freden var jag tydligen inte längre vasall.

1. Varför får man inget meddelande om sådant?
2. Om jag inte längre är vasall, var det väl ingen Status Quo-fred - något har ju förändrats...

3. Jag krävde 500 i tribut, vilket de accepterade, men jag såg inte röken av några pengar - varför?

Hi Sven

The issue of language has been discussed before on the forum, and I think that the general consensus is, that discussions should be in English. It is an international forum after all.

As for your questions, isn't it just a question of semantics whether you really had a 'status quo' peace when you broke the vassalage? I mean: what does it matter?

When you make peace, opponents may agree to pay you, but there's no guarantee that they'll stick to their promises. Unfortunately you have to, when it is the other way around. The burden of humans :)

Uhm... nice province. I
think I'll take it.

The only way to break free from vassalage is to declare war on the master country. Hence, I assume that it is considered implied (and clearly stated in the manual =) that when you declare war, you automatically end the vasallage, and thus no message about it is needed.

Having said that, I'd also like to point out that altough no message is needed, you _do_ actually recieve a message about it ('Sverige bröt vasallskapet med Danmark'). The default setting for that type of messages is that it appears only in the log, and not as a message box.

The 'Status Quo' refers to the fact that no territorial borders changed.

Geez. We must've posted those messages at the same time.

You can also break out of a vassal relationship by changing state religion. That's the way I managed to survive as Prussia, instead of declaring war on Poland-Lituania.

E

They probably payed you every thing they had at the moment (which probably where nowhere near 500, thus you didn't notice it) As a human player you are obliged however to take loans to pay up in full.
This 'feature' of the game should probably be taken as a game balancing thing and not a bug. If it didn't work like this declaring war on small defenceless nations only one province large would easily give you 7stars * 250 gold = 1750 gold every month or so ...
The posibility of a one province nation to ever come up with such a large sum would be historically absolutely impossible.

I remember having the same discussion of how to solve this obvious flaw in the game already when playing the BG 2 years ago.
The only thing I miss is some sort of information of how much money the country youe about to make peace with have at it's disposal (knowing you will only get 10-15 gold instead of 500 would give you a chance to choose a province instead).

Oh yeah, that's right. I changed state religion to break free from an unwanted alliance once. =)

Oye!
I've been annoyed by this terrible oversight for weeks now, but now I guess I will produce the smackdown. :D

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BORROW FOR A PEACETREATY.
That is, if the computer sends the diplomat, they will settle for whatever you have in your treasury currently.

However, if YOU want an early peace and can't afford it, by all means, you will have to borrow the money.
