Actually, I like Steam (and similar download systems). The whole process took some getting used to, but over time I've come to prefer it to traditional boxed products. No disks to keep track of or insert to play, which I like because I travel a lot and often play games on my notebook. These days, if given the choice between driving to the store and hoping they have the game I want or downloading it on the spot, I'll just buy it online and download it during the day when I'm at work or overnight.

And, no, you don't have to be online to play games on Steam. Once you have them downloaded and activated, you can play in offline mode. I play E:TW in offline mode all the time.

If EIC is realeased on Steam in the customary manner -- that is, with an offline mode -- I'll be a first-day buyer.
