Steam version - Can't save game

Hi,

I just bought the game yesterday, but I have a serious problem. I can't save the game. I get a message saying something like this:
Critical Error
Couldn't open file: Scenario\save games\germany.eug

Then a choice
Abort.....Cancel.....ignore....

Anybody know how to fix this?.....kinda difficult to find time to play it all in one session...
