We so lost karma
The fight was over quickly, the girls face being bashed in by the last smash of the fighting staff. Her body follows shortly, going limp and collapsing onto the dusty arena. The initiate strangely, felt nothing as he gripped the blood stained staff in his hand, perhaps a fraction of a moment's pity, but he had learned to discard those feelings long ago. The fights he had experienced in the mills, down in the hole against his comrades, had already hardened his heart. There was to be no mercy, no weakness, for weakness was a sin. The last five years of training had easily kicked in for him.

The inquisitors and trainers nodded appreciatively at the display. That kind of quick-thinking, unhesitating practicality, decisiveness, and ruthlessness was all too rare. He would make a good squad leader, or officer, if he lived that long.

The initiate watched without pity as they dragged her limp body away, blood already leaking from her wounds and back. He would not be sent back to the mills, nor was he executed. He had survived.

When Rad-Zombies Attack!

November 16th, 1937 HR, 2246 AD

The Rad-Zombies waste no time, within days of the first sights we've received reports that the slavers of the Legion to the South have experienced several large scale attacks in their territory. Brotherhood scribes hypothesized that several undiscovered vaults were the source of this mutation, which had been contained for decades.

The commonwealth are not spared, as they are hit less than a week later. The Brotherhood mobilizes in anticipation.

Months have passed and still no attack on our front lines, the Zombies have succeeded in driving the Legion out of Evansville and their northern outposts. But without express orders from the high elders the Brotherhood Knights remain at their posts, taking in any groups of civilian refugees that crawl into their lines.

On another front, the mysterious craft was revealed to be a pre-war vehicle, containing schematics for several pre-war technologies. This will prove invaluable to the coming fight.

Several stashes of supplies have gone missing, rumor has it that some hooligans were honoring the ancient ritual known as 'April Fools Day'. On a brighter note, the Enclave and Super mutant army have declared war on each other. How the Enclave plans to carry a war all the way to the midwest while they are still stuck in Alaska remains a mystery.

The zombies have spread in territory and numbers, but the brotherhood has not been idle. Several battalions of new infantry have been deployed around Chicago. Along with our contingent of Paladins, we are now ready to take the fight to the Rad-zombies.

The first attacks threaten to overwhelm our outpost at Evansville, but General Dekker and his Paladins arrive in time to provide much need assistance.

November 11, 1938 HR, 2247 AD

The brotherhood knights remain on standby, in a sort of unspoken agreement between the Commonwealth forces in the North to not set foot on their territory. However, a disturbing report reaches us of the Manitou tribes and their declaration of war on the legion. Although far from friends, the Legion and the Brotherhood had a mutual, if unspoken, understanding. The new, unknown power of the Manitou tribes makes the Elders cautious. More importantly, the legion was the lynch pin of Elder Blythe's strategy of keeping the Former USA in check while the Brotherhood dealt with the Rad Zombie threat.

The front lines settle down for the Winter, with no activity reported on the Rad zombies as they retreat to the ruins of Detroit. However, interesting developments have taken place in the East Coast. The Former USA has launched an armored spearhead against the Dark Cathedral cult, taking their capital in a single stroke.

Within months, all of the Commonwealth outposts in the South have been overwhelmed, with the zombie hordes pushing northwards.

Meanwhile, on the East coast. The Brotherhood remains skeptical whether or not the former USA can hold onto their advantage, considering the numbers of raiders and cultists against them, but the Manitou tribes have succeeded in weakening the pressure they feel on the southern front, allowing them to divert more troops to the north. Only time will tell whether or not the former USA can weather the storm.

My hopes to you in defeating the Zombies. Also, I see you lost some Karma. No bigger, being an Evil Karma -ist myself (usually), it makes me feel more at home in the Eastern BoS.

Zhuge Liang: Well, i would say that the blank slate is the appropriate term, as that is what your character is essentially in fallout, until you start making choices for them.

This AAR though, is mainly about the Brotherhood faction as a whole instead of any one character, and there may be random updates on several POVs within with brotherhood over different periods of time (and our blank slate initiate). Writing a fictional narrative with one character and story for me is hard in this context because I would pace them much slower than my gameplay updates, and i want to keep this moving along. (plus, I've kinda started this AAR as a semi break from narratives lol)

I was kinda thinking of using the moral choices as a compass on how my faction would be in game.

Sword of Justice Very very fanatical trainers? :)

Battle Bunny Yup, my intention exactly :)

Why are live soldiers fighting with the zombies?

I like what you're doing with your narrative sections and don't have any problem with the choices you're giving, I just find it hard to vote on what to do with 'blank slate'-style characters here because of the way the situation is different from the actual Fallout games. When playing the games I tend to put myself in the shoes of the protaganist to some extent, which is difficult to do here because my opinion is only one among many. This is really just me having problems getting into the storyline, the storyline itself is fine and there's no need to change it. I like the idea of the choices influencing the BoS as a whole, even if not much is changing right now as the character is simply following their existing ideology.

The FUSA doesn't look like a huge threat right now, they appear to be pretty much pinned down and have all their units committed so they won't be able to do much against you for the forseeable future.

P.S. You should see my latest test game with FODD 1.1. Bloody fantastic game! I'm playing Robot Nation and having a wonderful time. I especially found it, errr... interesting, when a rampant Vault City declared war on me while I was trying to drive back the Huns after they defeated the Under-Nation and pacified Rock Springs.

The Zombie Apocalypse spawned early and caused all sorts of havoc in the east. The fanatical paladins of Eastern Brotherhood of Steel staunchly drove back the Rad Zombies till the Mutant Army utterly crushed them beneath their iron boots. Former USA looked like it was winning against all comers but after about 2-3 years was utterly crushed. The Dark Cathedral now rules the east and is slowly swallowing the Royal Canadian Commonwealth.

NCR and their Hub allies are in big trouble against Western Brotherhood of Steel but are bravely holding on through years of war despite losing Santa Barbara, Maxson and Angels' Boneyard provinces.

My Robot Nation just researched Machine Efficiency tech which is a crucial tech in FODD 1.1. Our gleaming machine factories are working day and night to upgrade the Robot army and we have two Roboplane air wings raining death on VC troops from the sky. When upgrades are complete, we can make progress.

Good fun!

Cheers,
Sword
