honestly i like the new zone system
"Early Industry Zone" sounds like something that needs to be deleted. At the very least, they should rename it to something more refined, like "Capital Industry Zone." The current name is at the very least harmful from a roleplay perspective. Having an EARLY Industry Zone in the capital of my empire, which has conquered the entire galaxy, is ridiculous. They should either nerf it significantly to match the name (it's the most profitable zone in the game, and replacing it with anything else is simply irrational) or rename it.

this is the zone you start with, there is no nneed to keep it. It can be replaced with another zone of your choice if it has no buildings. personally i like to get rid of it asap as its inefficent and holds you back. sadly its not easy to see how to replace, click ob the middle of yuor city district to access menu.

I think one of the other gripes I'm going to put forward is the fact that all the "zones" are very overly-specialized; Amenities should probably not be an entire Zone category, since all colonies will need amenities to actually function long-term.

Some of the others make some sense, but I still feel like if we're going to get 100 jobs per district per zone, researchers should remain a unified job. And need to be tweaked since, as of this time, they currently provide next to no research production in much of the early game. This split of scientists, while making it so the zone grants 100 of each per prerequisite zone, will cause the amount of populace that gets sunk into research to absolutely balloon going forward, relative to other jobs and their net production capabilities.
