Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
I have surveyed several planets, including those with events involving life, have found primitive species, have made contact with a normal and fallen empire, and have made contact with the caravan. The "Find Alien Life" focus never completes and changing the focus only causes it to appear again later, either handicapping me with a constant unity cost or having only 4 out of my 5 focus slots usable.

My first encounter with alien life was a fallen empire making contact with me and I suspect that is the cause.

Steps to reproduce the issue.
I suspect it is caused by your first encounter of alien life being a fallen empire contacting you but I can't confirm this

same, also met fallen empires first very early now i have this focus which should have been completed!
