This issue came up recently, and I have no idea how to fix it. When I try to save/ edit a new empire, the game will freeze, and then crash without exception. I've been looking up solutions and none have been working, and I desperately need help. I had installed mods previously, and understand that this can cause issues and unsubscribed from them and manually deleted the files, and that didn't solve the issue. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Stellaris completely, and that also did not help, nor did restarting my computer, deleting and reinstalling the launcher itself, or anything else I tried. Also, the loading time is much slower for the launcher now when I open stellaris, and I am stuck on the paradox launcher symbol for a couple minutes, where previously I would be brought straight to the menu. If anyone has any idea what might be wrong, or any way to help me, that would be greatly appreciated.

Those custom designs are held in user empire designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ forum. Does it actually successfully get updated when you do this?
What antivirus app do you use? Make sure stellaris.exe is in all its exceptions lists.
