Description
Empire accepts invite to Federation and immediately leaves [3.4.3][9d15]

Game Version
3.4.3

What version do you use?
Steam

What expansions do you have installed?

Do you have mods enabled?
No

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
The AI empire in my federation invited these dudes - I voted, they joined, and then they left. This has the very fun effect of setting our Federation cohesion to -100 AND we now have -200 relations with them due to "Broke federation".

Steps to reproduce the issue.
load save, vote yes in the fed invite alert, let some time pass.

Yes, I'm having the same problem, twice now I have started a trade league with my FEDERATION BUILDING NEIGBORS, only to have them break the federation a month later for no apparent reason, super frustrating, don't even know how this could have happened.

As a side note, the empire I was forming a federation with had a protectorate, so maybe that's the issue?

I see the empire in my game has one too, so perhaps. If so it could also be because "Vassals join" is set to yes by default - perhaps these empires don't like their vassals and don't want to Federate with them?

yes, this is exactly the issue. it’s confirmed by the fact that federation members will immediately leave if they subjugate an empire with opposing ethics. An extremely simple fix would be to remove the opinion check on federation members that are not independent. It’s sad really, because this just reflects very poor play testing on PDox’s part

What's even more annoying is that they won't agree to setting "Vassals join Federation: No"

seems like there's a lot of bugs with federations and vassals in 3.4
