Or, as I already mentioned, subscription price would be dependant on owned DLC so one can buy DLC gradually lowering price of subscription untill all DLCs are owned.I've had Stellaris on Steam for a couple of years now, Xbox Game Pass originally got me into the franchise, but the two versions were quite different so I never put much into my Steam game. But it was recommended again by a friend and I have been enjoying the game without DLC, and I noticed a subscription for the DLC. It's a cool idea, but I would not use it unless there were a credit system as someone pointed out that I could eventually own the DLC over time if I don't sub. To me, it's just a waste of money to purchase something, and not own anything from it. I could put that $10 into a DLC on the Steam Sales and just own it gradually. It would be nice to have all the DLC but the price tag is just crazy for a new player getting started, but also $10 bucks adds up over time, and then if you don't sub you have nothing to show for it. Neat idea, but falls short as a new player (which I'm assuming this new model are targeting people like me) getting into Stellaris.
Let's say, avarage cost of DLC is 10$/15$/20$, and there is 20 DLCs right now.
Total cost of DLC is then = 200$/300$/400$
Subscription will be overpriced after 20/30/40 months, which is 1.3/2.5/3.3 years
But each year Stellaris gets 3-4 new DLCs, let's assume it's 4 to favour subscription so additional 10-20$ per 0.25 year (3 months) adding 1-2 months.
Having that numbers we can calculate, that subscription will stop being good deal (assuming one have no DLCs at all and start subscribing before machine age and cosmic storms) between 30 and 128 months (depending on avarage DLCs price.
Butt.
This formula falls if we try to add here anything, like increasing cost of DLC, already bought DLCs or willingness to buy some.
Tho it works for NEW players that don't want to buy DLCs, so generally, if someone wants to use subscription, should not buy DLCs and vice versa...
Unless
DLC prices will rise to 30$-40$ (assuming no discounts) and yearly cost of DLCs will match or exceed yearly cost of subscription especially that one can decrease subscription cost by skipping some months, and not playing.
With this change (and it's just theory, a conspiracy theory, that pdx wants this scenario to be true) players will be encouraged to use subscription model even having all DLCs that came before first subscription paym
Well I don't know how others take to this idea, but for me it would not be much use. There are what, 21 DLC's currently I can buy not having any. The subscription is $10, which isn't bad if it wasn't a waste of money after a month (literally owning nothing for the $10). If I were to buy 1 DLC on sale for $10, I would save what, like 48 cents per DLC I bought, so even if I did buy one DLC on sale for $10, and then I wanted to try the subscription for all DLC, I would still be paying $9.52 roughly? It still just doesn't sound like something I would do. I'd much rather just save the $10 and use it to buy the DLC over time on sales.Let's say, avarage cost of DLC is 10$/15$/20$, and there is 20 DLCs right now.
