Description
Presapients do not show in species menu

Game Version
2.5.1

What version do you use?

Steam

What expansions do you have installed?
All of the above

Do you have mods enabled?
No

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
Presapients do not show in species menu. There is a notification that i have unspent trait points, and there is name of the species, but they do not show in species menu at all.

Steps to reproduce the issue.
Discover presapients, and research "uplift" technology.
Notification shows each time gene modding project is completed. v. 2.5.1

I can confirm this issue as well. Happened in my game. Had two pre-sapient planets in my space, a notification for uplift, and neither species showed up in the species list, either under the "Empire" filter, or the "Galaxy" filter. I had to colonize their planets first. As soon as I did, the species would appear in the species list, and I could then uplift them.

Mind you that, on top of the above, this all occurred while the colony was establishing itself, so in about 12 months, with the colony still working to establish itself, I completed the uplift and ended up with 3 uplifted populations, two working the ship shelter, and one unemployed. Not sure if that's intended behavior either, but that would probably be a different thread, if so.

i am experiencing the same bug. throughout different play throughs upliftable species do not show up in the speies tab. and since changing right to robots sets them to being exterminated (other bug) i cant colonise 1st with droids.

Same here. I didn't take note of the planets' names where presapients had been discovered. Then, I got notifications each time I gained a gene point.

Perhaps are they associated to social research stations?

It's a known bug, it's not intended.

I have a pet theory that it's the knock-on effect of some other bug fixes. A while back something changed with how empires were done that caused a bug where the capital building on a planet didn't change when the planet changed owners, which caused all sorts of problems when, say, a regular empire invaded a hive mind or fallen empire. It was a huge deal, war was broken for lots of people.

They fixed that bug, but in that patch there was a new bug: pre-sapients would spawn, but then the next day they would be deleted. Not great. I suspect this had to do with the lack of a capital building.

They fixed that bug, but now they're not recognized by the game as being in your empire until you colonize the planet (and put a capital building there). Still not great, but better than the previous options.

Hopefully when we get another bugfix patch this is squashed with no further knock-on effects.

Thanks, issue already reported :cool: .

I just read that work-around on reddit, in case you don't wan't to colonize a planet that is in your domain. I didn't test it.
  1. Save your game (original game); then copy this saved game elsewhere to get a failsafe.
  2. Open console, select (click) on planet, enter "colonize 0" (to force instant and free colonization);
  3. Go to species screen, empire tab, and scroll until you get that planet's pre-sapient species (it just appeared in the list);
  4. Proceed with the uplifting (click "uplift", start project);
  5. Save the game (console game);
  6. Unzip this "console game";
  7. Search for the string "special_project", and look at the uplifted species name;
  8. Copy the relevant section of text, paying attention where it is in the file;
  9. Unzip your original game;
  10. Search for the string "special_project", and paste the copied section about the uplifted species, in the same location as in the "console game";
  11. Zip this modified game again under same name (if you get a failsafe somewhere);
Upon reloading the modified game, you should start with the uplifting special project active.

Hey guys, wanna add my frustration to the mix. Going through my first play-through and I also have this problem. The "unspent trait" notification is popped up and it take me to the species menu, but the pre-sapients are nowhere to be found. I read you can colonize the planet to fix it, but with a habitability rating of 30% I doubt I will until the very late stage of the game. Hoping Paradox will fix this soon!

In 3.0.2 still exists

Hello, perhaps it's worth adding here that with 3.1.2, I get a notification about the same (and only?) presapient species for not-spent gene-modding point each single time after I researched a gene-modding special project (i.e. each time I successfully mod/apply a model to a normal species).

Also, presapient pops gained as refugees correctly appear in the species listing (and still cause the periodic notification bug).

I wonder if the notification bug only triggers after both the gene-modding tech and the provolution tech have been researched, and not while only the gene-modding tech is known.

[EDIT]- The notification triggers also with two presapients species on two different worlds;
- It doesn't trigger after modding (applying a model to) a robotic species.

As can be seen on the screenshot, not only the notification is about all presapients in the empire, but it's also about one single not spent gene point, whereas presapients have a lot of points once they are provolued.
[/EDIT]
