Alright, I'm new to this game, (DoomsDay) do you have to do everything that is listed to play online?

what happened to just..inputing the IP..and connecting?

I'm no computer genius..so I have no idea how to do 85% of this crap.

Is there an easier way..now that 1.2 is out?
There is a chance you don't have to do any of this crap. But you won't know until you try it. ;)

If you try and find out it doesn't work without requiring you to do all this crap, drop a line and there might be some good soul willing to help you. Maybe even from Paradox. :p

there are several ways of playing online, if you're just looking for an online game to join then visit V-net, you shouldn't need to open any ports as those are needed mostly for hosting, your router should be able to figure out the rest. Same goes if you have a specific IP to join. However, if you want to host a game, you usually need to open the ports listed in the topic.

yeah all I want to do..is go 1 on 1 with a buddy of mine!

and then maybe tackle a bigger game with more players.

well, either of you needs to host. So whoever hosts has to open up the ports mentioned then give the other his IP, which will be used to join the game.

D-Link DSL g604t router

Having followed the examples given here for different routers, I'm unable to get the thing working. My concern is something called "Port Map" that is requested after "Port Start" and "Port End".

Tried to apply the "Port End" -value here, but it did not work. Some forum suggested I write my local IP followed by port end value, eg. 192.168.x.x:2400, but the router does not accept this.

NAT is turned on and Router Firewall is turned off.

You should enter your local ip to Private IP field, Port Start and Port End set to one of necessary ranges (2300-2400, 28800-29000, 47624) and Port Map to any number within the range.

Other option is to enable DMZ on your PC ip address via DMZ configuration page, just set it to Enabled and and enter your ip to IP address field. Also, after you finish playing, disable DMZ to keep your computer from unnecessary risks. When entering DMZ, make sure your Windows Firewall (assuming you have XP SP2) is on.

Most systems after asking for the specified range will ask for UDP, TCP etc, the game requires TCP forwarding. You now need to use your IP address from step 1, as this is your NAT IP behind the gateway, the 192.168.x.x number.

my system asks for an application, in addtion to the port range, protocol and nat ip. what do i put in the application field? thanks

What system do you have? Application can be anything, try looking in manual/help. Or tell me your router model/brand and I may be able to help more.

From what I've read, application is just label under which you'll recognize port forwarding entry. So it doesn't matter at all from technical point of view (to make you ready to MP with P'dox games). Just enter something you find convenient.

Ok, I seem to have a pesky problem with making MP work on my Dlink G604T router...

The DMZ is setup, BUT I don´t know how to setup the port forwarding. The port forwarding looks like this:

ANY help greatly appreciated.. I am getting desperate :D

I believe you should set following rules:
Code:
Rule name Private IP Protocol Port Start Port End Port Map
Paradox 1 your PC's IP TCP 47624 47624 47624
Paradox 2 your PC's IP TCP 2300 2400 2300
Paradox 3 your PC's IP TCP 28800 29000 28800

Im afraid that didn´t work

What else could it be, my firewalls are turned off, DMZ is enabled and I can see the other servers in V-net and I can chat with the players but when I try to join I get the message: Server not found on xx.x.x.xx IP Check your connection etc...

Any help greatly appreciated (thanks lord ederon)

Did you enter your private IP correctly, i.e. that of your computer? How is it assigned to your PC? If it is via DHCP, it is likely you get different IP each time you turn on your PC. In such case, try to set DHCP reservation for your computer, so you get the same IP every time your PC ask for it.

Other than that, nothing else comes to my mind right now.

perhaps the person who setup the server is the one with the problems? Or does it apply to all servers you try to join ?

I've tried following everything here, but HOI2 refuses to work... everytime I join a game, a few seconds later it says all the other people have quit (even though it's actually me that's quit). Could it be anything to do with this stupid BT Homehub garbage?
