Did you try reinstalling? It seems that for some people, reinstalling directX and then the game worked

BUGS FIXED!
OK it looks as if my previous post can be ignored now, I stayed up all night, and got the game working.
First off I made sure I had realplayer or mediaplayer installed...that brought me the in game intro (didnt have it before), then I re loaded the newest video driver for my video card (updated it about 4 months ago, but thought what the hell)...I could then play the game without crashes, but it was 'Herky Jerky', basically unplayable
I then reloaded Directx 8.0, and started game
IT RUns GREAT I stayed up till 7 in the freakin morning playing it, and it had no random crashes, it did crash on the diplomacy-right click thing, but otherwise seems to have fixed everything, saves all work...the only thing is I dont have the music?, but who cares, I will mess with my cd-audio settings
the game works wonderfully, I would highly to everyone who is havingproblems with the US version to reload all your newest drivers, then reload DirectX, and see what u get

U do not want to download the UK version that is the first thing, is not compatible AFAIK
Try updating windows..go to microsoft website
Download newest drivers for your video and sound card....if they have a video driver that works with DirectX ver 8..that is definitely good
run the game once..see if it still is buggy..it should not be buggy, but should be 'herky jerky'
Now reinstall Directx 8.0

I have the UK version and am running with patch 1.07c. I am playing Russia in 1732 and the game is constantly crashing out to the desktop.
I am running
AMD-k6 350
32Mb Graphics Card (S3)
Loads of disk space 10Gb+
128Mb RAM
I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled, and have tried running under v1.07 as well, but it's no good.
I have been running under DirectX 7a, so I shall try jester's suggestion of downloading ver 8.
@Patric:
I can send you my save games if that would help you trace this bug. From the board I guess a lot of people are having the same problem.
