i cant believe your getting 6 sec/day :/

I have a Q6600 quad core with 4 gb ram and i get 1.5 seconds a day or so with 1.4 patch in 1936 campaign at start.

This is your machine related sadly.

What's your graphics card ?
How old are the graphics card drivers?
Is this an OnBoard VGA unit or a separate (PCIe) card?

Have the HP m9180sc.a with a Geforce 8800 GT ). Vista itself has been taking care of updating drivers spo i really havent checked that much. After my clean install they are all at 08' level so im udating as we speak. edit: updatet all drivers and got 4 sec days in start of 36. Loaded up later scanarios like 41 and its around 10+. Its better but not great. All try deleting sprites later on. More tips? Don't know if it will slow further down after a while.

Where did you install the game and do you have UAC on? (or was this issue fixed in AOD?)

UAC is turned off and the game is installed in programfiles > paradox plaza > AOD folder. Maybe i should try installing windows 7. Ran tests aon memory, cores and videocard. Everything seems in order.

Well at worst it wont do anything, at best it'll 1) stop Vista from being dumb and 2) stop your AV from being dumb

plus its less work than installing a new OS XD

Same result.. Still very slow. Where is the savelocation btw? Turning of AV did nothing also. No, maybe slightly when i disabled it for the whole harddrive. I get about 4 sec a day in 36 now and one sec at 0 hour. Going to fiddle around a little more. I really want to play CORE but that is just silly slow because of all the events. Tried yesterday. Since i have a HP i cant overclock the cores either so i must find other ways to improve speed.

If you installed outside of C:\Program Files (so like, C:\Paradox or C:\whatever OR in your documents directory) then the savegame location is where you installed the game --> AOD --> scenarios --> save games

If you installed inside of C:\Program Files (so like, C:\Profiles\AOD or C:\Profiles\whatever), then the savegames are in the C:\Users\(YourAccountName)\AppData\.... I think, I dont remember (its somewhere in there, hidden... either local or roaming...)

Outside of disabling your AV, I dont know how much else you can do to speed up the game. 4 sec 1936 at fastest speed isn't terrible but I can see what you mean.

Yeah, thanks for trying at least:D It's not that bad that its unplayable but the prewar buildup is taking so long (the aspect i find most fun with the Hoi series). At war i play with normal speed and stuff happen all the time so there i have no problem.. 4 sec is ok, but after the 2 - 3 first months it crawls up 1 sec each half year. I have decided to buy som upgrades for my computer since im sure to get use of it anyways :)

I am sure that AoD can't use multiple threads so this is a problem.

Presently, once war starts it takes about 12 seconds a day for me. I just grin and bear it.

This was the main reason I've given up on HoI3.
As I've mentioned in other threads, upgrading the computer isn't an option for me, even if someone gave me a million pounds.
