In my new game as Scotland (new game started under 1.03a), my ever disloyal duke of Lothian decided to revolt. With his two provinces, he breaks vassalage and declares war. Happily, I send in the armies and crush him, taking away both his provinces and his ducal title.

But my reputation went from honorable to slightly tarnished.

According to MrT (excerpted here) this should not be happening.

In the face of a determinedly disloyal vassal, the nasty spiral of decreased loyalty has been eliminated by removing the penalties for defensive wars with your vassals. As long as you aren’t the aggressor, you will incur no badboy or vassal loyalty penalties during the war. But there is a slight catch: failing to come to a vassal’s aid will cost you some prestige. Also, be aware that a disloyal vassal may now go looking for an ally (or more) outside of your realm if he wishes (see alliances in the diplomacy section below) but also that any alliance(s) will be dissolved if you manage to restore his loyalty.

Still looks like you got a break - what I was seeing under 1.02 was -0.8 per title taken in a war, slightly tarnished kicking in at -1.0, and tarnished at -2.0.

What was your reputation drop? Anything less than -2.4% would indicate something going on less than my experiences.

Hmmm, don't have a save handy at the moment. I'll see if I can engineer a similar condition with an insane monarch and see what the % change is.

Still, any change would seem to be wrong, given MrT's FAQ (which could be wrong, but it would be nice to know either way).

I was able to generate this in a 1.03a game (kinslayer being the nasty trait it is), and when I took a duke + 2 counties from a rebel duke, I got -0.4% for each title claimed, for a 50% break.

Definitely not as good as free for going after rebellious vassals, but definitely better than -0.8%.

Dunno if that's WAD, BAD[1] or not.
