Stuck in Observer mode after succession

Description​

Suddenly, my war to claim my lieges throne ended, and the game auto-paused. I didn't get an event popup for it, but my character died in a storm at sea. The Succession screen didn't pop up. But a message that said "You can view, but not affect the game while the Succession window is open". So then I noticed down in the left bottom corner was an X close window button, so I clicked that, and the Succession window popped up. I said to continue playing as my heir, but it now just has me in observer mode. Since this was Ironmane, I couldn't open the console or do anything. I restarted the game, and after loading the save, it came to the Choose a Character to Play screen.
