I have noticed that when I press keyboard buttons, many times the game begins to stutter.

This doesn't seem to have anything to do with hardware resources because it happens on the strategic map as well.

If, for example, I am in direct command of a ship and I press D to turn right, the game stutters, it means you hear the comment stuttering, fps dropping to 0 and everything becomes unplayable. You would think this has to do with turning the whole 3d world and system being out of resources but look, if you turn the camera with the middle mouse button everything turns SMOOTHLY and the game doesn't stutter.

Cherry on the cake, in a port, when you load marines and hit SHIFT or CONTROL you can hear the stuttering as well. It's very very weird... anyone else having this issue? Is there a possible solution (and explanation) ?

Full GamersGate bundle, 1.12 DC.

It doesn't ALWAYS happen but sooner or later during a game it happens. The strange thing is that it happens when I ctl select ships or when i shift load marines, it doesn't matter whether on strat map or 3d battle, the game just becomes unplayable. Feels like a leak of some sort that sooner or later it happens.

The fact is that when this happens I can't get in direct control of ships because i cant operate the sails or turn... unless there was a way to manouver the ship with the mouse, by not using keyboard. Is there a way to map this function?

This problem happens with ANY graphic setting... I jus don't understand. Any clues? Anything to do with Vista? I think there's a function about keeping a key pressed for 5 seconds triggering a particular setting but i disabled this function... could that be it? Any clues?

We have to take a closer look into this. I have no solutions, just double check that you don't have any accessibility features enabled in Windows. Some shift presses can indeed activate the "lazy keys" (or something) feature which could be a culprit. Thank you for reporting the issue.

Well the KB functions are disabled, and it can't be a HW issue because if I rotate the view in direct command, everything moves smoothly. Unfortunately, when I hit A or D to turn the ship this problem becomes VERY annoying and I'm often forced to go back to normal battle mode.

I am sure if I could turn the ship with the mouse instead of the KB the problem would be solved. In any case, it's not just the shift key. It also happens when I drag items in the diplomacy screen using CTL key so essentially it's all the keyboard causing the issue.

I have noticed that sometimes if I have a youtube video playing in the background and I chat using digsby, while I am typing, everything gets slower and the audio from the youtube vid in the background stutters the same way the whole EiC stutters so I guess this indicates quite fairly that this might be a driver issue.

Perhaps you know something more about it so here's the vid and audio drivers in use (either might conflict with the KB and this might not be EiC problem but my system problem, in any case I use EnditAll2 before playing so all non essential programs are autoterminated so it's nearly impossible there's some other prog conflicting unless it's the AVAST antivirus but I doubt so):

High definition audio: driver version 6.0.6002.18005 (MS)
NVIDIA 8800M GTS: driver version 7.15.11.6746 (NVIDIA)

The vid card was set on PERFORMANCE and I now switched it to BALANCED. Will let you know and, as usual, thanks for your help.

I didn't manage to find anything related with a quick Googling. One guy solved his similar problem by slowing down the keyboard repeat rate but that sounds like a long shot.

Have you tried to update or remove (and use generic keyboard driver from microsoft) the keyboard drivers? Fancy keyboards come with driver/software cd and who knows what they install.

One more thing - try to repeat the bug with the youtube for example and use the task manager to see if some obvious process steals the cpu time.
