Submarine Propulsion types - some do not have propellers?

I was just looking at a reference book that seemed to indicate that newer british submarines are propelled by jets rather than propellers?
Can anybody confirm this. Last I heard jets were a fantasy from Red October

Most of the time that means that the propeller is contained in a duct, which makes it a pumpjet, not quite the Caterpillar, but quieter than a bare prop. The same technology is used on Virginia and Seawolf classes as well.

I expect that in time waterjet will replace normal props on pretty much all naval vessels in not so distant future.

It won't. Waterjets are very inefficient at low speeds, which is what warships move around at mostly.
