Succession window not showing, but game paused while it's "open"

Description​

My landless adventurer character died during a camp hunt, causing a succession. The succession window didn't open, however the game is perpetually paused and the following message displays: "You can view, but not affect the game while the Succession window is open".

My new character appears bottom left and despite the message I can choose a lifestyle and spend money on camp upgrades, however I cannot unpause.

Steps to reproduce​

Suspect it's having your character die while at a camp event.

I found the solution for this situation. Very simple. Feasible for ironman mode. All you need is a mod called "Switch Character Interaction". Switch to another character, and boom the succession window will appear. And you can switch back.

I just had this issue. My character died, and his son inherited his titles. But he was a leper and so had no chance of siring heirs. So I did the only sensible thing there was and had him take his own life so his sister could take over (who I'd set up in a matrilineal marriage). But the game is stuck on the Succession window which hasn't actually appeared. Because my character committed sui, I can't just have my heir attempt the same. Tried starting a feast instead, but no success.

Same thing happened to me now as the Khazar ruler. Tried to force quit the game to go back to the latest autosave. Died again, same issue. I exited to the main menu and then my save file was empty.

This happened when my king was a pilgrimage and died. Completely locked me out of the game. Absolute game breaking bug. Please address it asap!

Same happens to me, when It take "Attempt Suicide" event and it succeeds. Succession screen "flashes" for a split second and i am stuck in "you can view, but not affect the game while the Succession window is open".

Not sure if this is helping anyone else but I literally just restarted the game and I got the succession window.

edit: Apparently 1.16.2.1 fixed this.
