I've read in another thread about a similar topic and in the end was stated that you could do nothing when the game was corrupt.
Well, I also can't load my savegame including the autosaves (PC freezes when "loading scenario" appears), yesterday everything was fine.
So how can I find out if this savegame is corrupt? Is there any hope? I've spent some 10 hours on this particular game and don't want to lose it...

You could try looking through the save file and see if you can find anything obviously wrong. You may also have some luck by asking in the editing forum if anyone knows the common causes of corupted saves. That might give you an idea of what to look for.

You may also want to think back to any events that happened before the saves stoped working, as that also might give you a clue on what to look for.

Sorry that is all the advice I have.

Did it give you an error message or did it just crash?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I've already looked through the save file with Wordpad but couldn't find anything suspicious (on the other hand I wouldn't recognize it even if there were something I fear...).

There were no special events before I saved it the last time.

No further error messages, it just freezes when loading.

Strange thing is that BOTH autosaves don't work as well. It's a pity, really...

What that means is that the game got corrupted before the autosaves.

So what I meant by thinking about what was going on in the game, was what was going on before your EARLIEST save (including autosaves) that do not work.

Something obviously was wrong. ;)

So I was saying what was going on, ie events, battles ...

Well, I was playing Germany, having conquered most of Europe including UK (though not annexed yet), Australia and NZ. I just started to invade East Africa to cut off the remaining British troops there (already conquered North Africa). I secured the beaches and that's when I saved last.

I'm afraid I can't add nothing more to that.

It is not your last save though it is the earliest one that does not work, Probably your autosave.

So you can look at province numbers of one you just annexed, around that time.

The last save was a manual save when I stopped playing. It is not working as also both autosaves don't.

I can tell you though the provinces I conquered last:

# 1301, 1306, 1308, 1309

Sorry I am not making myself clear.
It is NOT the LAST save!
It is the FIRST (earliest) save that does not load.

Okay, here is what happens, at some point in your game something happens that was not supposed to happen, (an event went bad or taken provences were not distributed to the new owner correctly ...) Whatever. THen sometime after that maybe you save the game and continue to play. That save will contain the bad data. You continue to play, and the game autosaves at some point. (that save will be bad), you continue to play and save the game again. (that save will be bad).

However what was happening when you saved the game the last time, does not matter, since the game became corrupt much earlier, and any save after the corruption will be corrupt.

That is why you want to look back to what was going on when the first save (chronologically) that does not work was saved.

Ah, thanks a lot, now I get it.

:)

Well, problem is, I played for about 5 hours straight without manually saving so the last save is oldautosave which is already not working. So this would mean I can throw this game in the bin.

Well, I've switched to CORE anyway in the meantime.

Castellon, thanks for your neverending patience. ;)

No problem, good luck with CORE!
