I think the required maintenance and how often things breakdown needs to be slowed down. Things breaking down every few Sols is too fast in my opinion. Especially power cables and pipes.

I don't think it's all that unreasonable, especially with a larger network. One thing I'd like would be to be able to stockpile some maintenance-specific equipment, and prevent it from being used elsewhere. It would help mitigate the impacts.
I see what you're saying and maybe that and the ability to research something that would repair buildings and other things BEFORE they breakdown. Preventative measures, reduce downtime and keep reduction constant.
And a research to slow down maintenance cost or degradation is a good idea?
