I want some feedback from the MP community about the following, very preliminary, ruleset for initiating some use of the VP system into an MP campaign...
"Victory point system
Due to the lack of meaningfulness with the victory point system I’m trying to invent and balance a system that will make it somewhat useful again.
Each player will receive 1500 points to distribute between the available playing nations. These points may be distributed between one, few or many nations. They must be spent in one fashion or another. All players then place bids for nations in secret. (The GM will deposit his bids with another player before receiving the other player’s bids). The highest bidder for any nation will receive that nation. Nations are distributed in the order of the list below. When equal bids are placed chance will determine the outcome. The player bid will be reduced from the nations finishing VPs.
The following standard penalty will also be removed from the available nations:
Spain 2000
France 1600 (600vp extra for Versailles event)
England 1000
OE 1000
Sweden 500
Portugal 500
Holland 500
Russia 500
Denmark 500
Venice 500
Brandenburg 0
Austria 0
Poland 0
These points are set according to the amount of VPs these nations usually accumulate during a MP campaign and according to the popularity of a nation as to somewhat reward players for playing what seems like less gratifying nations.
Example:
A player bids 800 VP for England, 500 for Holland and 200 for Denmark. Another player has bid +800 for England but he is the highest bidder for Holland and gets to play them for the cost of 500 VP along with the standard penalty of 500 VPs. This means that Holland gets a -1000 VP penalty in this campaign."
