There are certain problems that I continually run into playing HOI2, and one of them is supply, most specifically supply when a convoy chain is involved. I pay attention to the number of convoys assigned to the chain, and make certain that the chain is escorted. I look to my units and see that they have an unimpeded path back to the port that they are supplying from, and that the convoy line from that port to my primary supply source is also free. Inspite of this, however, I keep finding my troops which are so supported constantly going in and out (and mostly out) of supply!

I don't know what causes this. It has happened to me as Britain, the US, Japan, and even as Germany (with the Afrika Corps). It has even happened when the country I was playing was still at peace. I cannot figure out what causes supply to behave this way or what I need to change to make the supply flow consistantly. I'm at my wits end with this, seeing offensives stall, and even units bombed out of existence since my unsupplied fighters will not fly up to cover them.

If anyone can explain what it is I'm doing wrong, please help. Thanks.

Check if your convoys are running, if they're being intercepted, or if the convoy AI is being just plain stupid. If none of those, then check that there are enough supplies at the depot.

EDIT: Also, the convoy AI has a habit of not attaching escorts to convoys.

I've found the HOI2 convoy system responds better with a surplus of convoys. So figure out how many you need, than add at least half again. This will also help with the occasional losses that the AI puts on your convoys.

Ecnan had it. Go to the supply depot at the first of the day you will see it runs out. Add more convoys.

If you're running an overseas war, you need to have several hundred (if not more) convoys in your pool. For some nations like the US, I've even gone up close to a thousand (that might have been overkill). This is one of those instances where you need to add the multiplier "P" for PLENTY.

Thanks to everyone who's responded; it's very much appreciated. :) As I said, the convoy problem happens to me even when at peace, so it cannot be that the convoys are being intercepted. I know what you mean about the AI, though. I've found that, left to it's own devices, it will starve most of one's overseas positions and gather all the convoys in the pool and send them to one place. It seems especially fond of Cypress for some reason.

I'm assuming that you all must be right -- I think that ecnan02 suggested it first -- that I don't have enough convoys on the routes. I thought (foolishly) that if I put enough convoys on that the route turned from red to white on the convoy screen, that that meant that the supply chain was established. I guess I should try to double the number, or at least use half again the number. It's unfortunate though, with ongoing games, as I hadn't planned for the production of such numbers, and it's hard to change on the fly. :( I suppose I will have to use the convoy cheat.

I've seen the depot window of course, but I've never really figured out how to use it. I thought perhaps that there was some way to build depots...maybe there is. But, if I understand what you're saying, it reflects the amount of supply built up at an overseas location through the use of the convoy route, yes? If someone could clear that up for me, that would be grand. :)

Thanks again to all of you for your help.
