I would have seen this as a rather gamey move had you known about it (because she is one of the earlier marriage targets with no brothers), but so I think you were just lucky.

That with Kexholm is just too bad. I wonder where they managed to get that many troops from and why the forts could be rebuilt this fast.

Unintended dynastic success is always some of the best surprises CK has in store. I'd say continue. After all, who says that one has to remain within the orbit of Hungary in your goal of disinheriting the Arpads.

This could qualify as exactly the right sort of sneaky move to achieve that.

Shuma: That's actually what I'm leaning towards. Besides, if Istvan dies like so many infants do, well then it's all good because the Duchy goes to Ince then. :) :D I will remember if I ever make Jestor cookies.

CSK: Really? I had no idea about that. The only standard gamey marriages I know of Agnes d'Aquitaine and as of late, Danish Princess Ingrid (for her great stats). Kexholm I managed to get. It was Satakunta that I finally just gave up on, particularly since the Republic of Iceland (I really, really hate Iceland now ) declared war on Satakunta and I knew I couldn't reconquer it before Iceland got there.

Veldmaarschalk: My goal was in the title, to become greater than the Arpads. :) I see your point about switching over to Istvan, but at the same time I'd hate to give up Ince and would only do so if I could give Gemer and Kexholm to Istvan, i.e. abdication. But that would count as cheating in my book, even though it'd make sense storywise and I'd hate to do that.

stnylan: Good point, but I think I'm going to keep playing Ince and just hope that Istvan dies of natural causes so that the Duchy reverts to the main character :)

Nice update, Swabia could go a long way towards surpassing the Arpads, I'm glad you're sticking with Ince through. Hope to see more soon.

Thanks. :) I'm going to try doing a play and update now, actually.

The torches were snuffed out one by one as the thin, black-clad bodies scuttled through the halls in Gemer and Ulm.

One by one the knives struck the hearts of the Barogs, each thrust precise and professional.

In five minutes, the entire family lay dead in their beds.

Blonde Eufrozyna smiled as she carried the deeds to the Duchy and the Counties. When she reached the main hall in Gemer's manor, she knelt down before the imposing, grinning man waiting there and offered up the papers.

"It is done, my liege. You now own Gemer and the powerful Duchy of Swabia from here until eternity. With this land, you and your descendants will become Lords of Europe."

And so it came to pass. King Boleslaw Piast, with his mighty Polish armies, conquered all of Europe, Russia, and the Middle East, establishing a new unitary world order that would last for centuries.

All because a simple Hungarian count trusted his brother's Polish wife far too much.

You know, I'd say something about your luck. But it seems so redundant. Well, at least the Balogs tried! Hope you try again./

Yeah in this case, a piece of nagware about renewing my anti-virus subscription popped up in the middle of playing and WHAM! comp freeze. Game interrupted, post lost.

Go to start up again and crash crash crash for that save game.

But a very nice little post withal, even if the second running, as it were.

CSK: Thanks. :) It's the ending that made the most sense, given the circumstances. Also, in the game that got lost, Poland had annexed Opava, a Hungarian county (and promptly got excommunicated for it, but that's another story) And yes, perhaps I should try a more peaceful game.

stnylan: Thank you. :)

Shuma: Yeah, I couldn't believe it either. I looked at my frozen screen and was like "...You have *got* to be kidding me..."

So I'll start again I'm sure, with somewhere new and some other hook, since I have free time tonight.

Thanks for continuing to stick with me through my short, and admittedly repetitive and somewhat boring in style AARs guys :)

Your AAR's are so enjoyable, a shame they so short :)

Thank you! :) I'm going to take a brief CK hiatus I think until I get recharged for it. I may give Viccy another crack, though and this time write an AAR for it.

When you come back to CK, I think you should try playing as anything other than a count. More likely than not you seem to be unlucky as a count.
