I guess "Papal Invitation" throws off the whole "continuity" theory. But since the Pope viewed the kingdom of Sicily as a papal fief, he just assumed he didnt have to worry about continuity or legitimacy.

However, if Manfred had won at Benevento or Conradin at Taglicozza, continuity wouldve triumphed. In my CK game, the Pope will have long since been put in his rightful place, and it wont be Conradin getting executed after Tagliacozza, but that sneaky bastard Charles.
;)

Continuity did prevail - eventually. Pedro III of Aragon was married to Manfred's daughter, and he used her claim to invade and conquer Sicily after the Sicilian Vespers. His descendant Alfonso V made good the family's claim ont he mainland half of the kingdom after the extinction of the Angevins...

Right you are! It was a happy ending after all. Thanks D, youve saved my point once again! :D
