Description
Black screen with white box when the game launches

Windows

Steam

What is your game version?
Can't see, game does not open

What DLC do you have installed?
Space Race, Green Planet, Below and Beyond, Stellaris Dome Set, Marsvision Song Contest, Colony Design Set, Project Laika, In-Dome Buildings Pack

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
When I launch the game from Steam (or NVIDIA Geforce Experience), the screen goes black with a white rectangle inside it.

I can see the customized mouse cursor, and after some time, music starts playing. The white box never changes, but when I hover over some places, I hear sounds as if I was putting the mouse over some UI elements (buttons?).

NVIDIA drivers are updated.

Can you replicate the issue?
Yes, just opening the game (it never worked).

That looks like a video driver issue to me. Has this game ever worked on this machine? Or never yet?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Hi Andrew, thanks for replying.
This is the first time I'm trying to play - so it never worked on my computer. But lots of other games do: eg, The Witcher 3, Endless Legend, Armello, Child of Light, Dota 2, Cross Code.

I ran dxdiag and attached it here.

My guess is the nVidia driver update did not go well, due to this in the logs:
GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (Feature Level: 11.1 { SAD4ShaderInstructions: True, ExtendedDoublesShaderInstructions: True, })
API d3d11
GPU Driver Version N/A
GPU Driver Package Version N/A
I have the same driver as you and its version shows in that log just fine for me.

- uninstall the nVidia driver and all other nVidia software
- reboot
- install that driver again
- reboot again

I hope that does it for you!

Hi Andrew. I have CUDA and several GPU debugging tools from NVidia installed and it would be too much trouble to just try to see if it works. Besides, if the game does not work when those tools are installed and I have to choose, unfortunately, it can't be the game.

So if that's the only path, I'm afraid there is no solution for my case.

I suspect you are right. Sorry for that outcome!
