I had something similar, and it was because in their current range-of-work (dictated by their controller: hub / rover / ship etc) they didn't have the resources they needed to complete the tasks locally.

That resulted in them just idling and me not really knowing why.

Solved it by having an RC transport move some resources around, but yeah, it would be great if the game told you that the drones were aware of the task, but they couldn't fulfil it.

In general really it would be great to see if drone/s were aware / on their way to a specific task, as the number of times something has needed maintenance and I've had no idea whether a drone was ever going to get around to it was kinda maddening.
