Game crashes while starting game

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
I can load the game and get past the title screen taking me to the Start New Game page. I can select which type of game to start but what ever I choose the game will crash and boot me to my desktop while loading.
I am running the game on Ubuntu 17.10 and have attached a ld.log file from the last time I tried to play the game.
Can you replicate the issue?
