Description
Extreme FPS drop when a lake with water in it is in view on MacOS Mojave

Mac

Steam

Do you have Space Race installed?
Yes

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
I built a small lake and the game immediately started stuttering as the FPS dropped immensely. As long as the lake remains in view, the game is barely playable but plays normally when I scroll away. Turning the lake off and letting the water evaporate completely also restores proper FPS. Also, the water seems way too bright (even during night), it's basically a glowing white pool of despair :(.
This happens on a 21.5" 2017 iMac with Core i5 @ 3.4Ghz, 8GB RAM and Radeon Pro 560 4GB.

Can you replicate the issue?
Scroll the view onto a lake and the game becomes nearly unplayable while it remains in view as long as there's water in it. Happens also if the map view is opened.

I confirm the same issue as @CookieMNSTR XL. After destroying the lake everything was fine - building a bigger lake made the issue reappear. One more detail:

The issue only appeared once I reached 25% temperature (liquid water). I had a lake before reaching 25% and everything was fine.

System: 27" 2019 iMac with Core i5 @ 3.7Ghz, 64GB RAM and Radeon Pro 580X 8GB.

Yes.

I'm having this exact issue. The lake never actually renders the water, when I zoom out its a white box on the terrain. Extreme FPS drops as soon as lake/water is allowed not the surface :-/ Not happy.

I'm also experience the same issue with a large lake; the moment my game go to temperature to allow liquid water the game started bugging out.
I've also had the random crashes which I've associated (possibly) to Silva's Orion rocket mod.

Same issue @CookieMNSTR XL and @stephan2342

Same issue for me. Frozen lake was no problem, as soon as it melted, it was unplayable.

Yes and all other DLCs, no mods

After the lake started filling the game became generally unplayable. After changing the graphics preset to medium, while much lower quality the game would play even if a bit choppy.

I'm still having this issue also. Can you guys please let those of us having this issue know if this is coming with another patch for Mac? I've been also experiencing lots of random crashes and was told on another thread that there would be a patch on Thursday? Is this the patch come early?

Same issue as described by other users here. Once I reached 25% temperature, the game slowed to a crawl any time one of my existing lakes was near my view. The lake surface appears to be solid white. I started this saved game with the last version, hope this new version out this week would fix it but it's still unplayable. If my view is focussed anywhere else on the map it runs fine, but lakes slow it to a crawl.

Might be easily reproducible. Create lake, increase temperature above 25%. Haven't tested yet myself, but am reporting what I see with my main saved game so far.

2016 15" MacBook Pro w/ Touch Bar - Core i7 @ 2.6GHz - 16GB RAM - Radeon Pro 460 4GB

I have the same issue with all mentioned. Lake made game unplayable after it became liqued. I had no crashes, it's just slow as hell. Seems like it's just happening on Mac's.

Yes, all DLC except Laika. Tried with and without mods, all same results

Same issue as described by others. Game slowes if a lake is in view area; if I move the other places that sees no lakes, it's fine again. The lake surface appears to be solid white.

System:
Tried on 2 systems.
1- Late 2014 iMac 5k - Intel i7 @ 4Ghz, 32 GB RAM, Radeon R9 M290X 2GB
2- 2019 MBP Retina 15" - Intel i9 2,9Ghz, 32 GB RAM, Raden Pro 555x 4GB + Intel UHD 630

Both Mac's runs MacOS 10.14.5

Exact same issue.

Do you have Space Race installed?
No (yet Dome Set + Project Laika + Green Planet).

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
After liquid water appears FPS dropped from around 25 to 3.
Deconstructed the lakes, FPS rose straight back to 25.
Re-built a lake, dropped again to 3.

Move the camera away from any lake, FPS goes back to 25. Move camera around a lake, FPS drops to 3.

Changing Video settings does not change anything (even to the lowest possibles settings).

Seems that Mac crashes and game breaking bugs are simply being ignored as far as I can tell. I thought the purpose of these forums was for Paradox to interact with players who are having issues with their game, but game-breaking issues like this are getting 0 response. Really disappointed to purchase a game that doesn't work and then be ignored by paradox while they release fixes for minor issues.

The developers Haemimont do read these forums and are aware of these Mac issues. They don't post much here as that's time spent away from development, please don't interpret that as not caring.

I can attest to this point. Some time ago, I posted about a bug where, with the Printed Electronics breakthrough, you could queue up a drone for 1 metal, cancel it, and get out 1 unit of electronics, which was cheesy. I never got an official Haemimont response in the thread... but it did get fixed.

Thanks for the response. I don't mean to be brash. I just want some form of update with the frozen lake issue as it simply means I cannot play the game. Do you know when this might be fixed?
