Description
Mac OSX Blurry Text, HUD and Menu: Missing Display Settings

Mac

Steam

What is your game version?
1001586

Do you have Space Race installed?
Yes

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
Last time I played was December. Updates loaded and when I opened the game, all the text is blurry. The gameplay screen is not as clear as it was. Previously I had the issue where the game would load in 1/4 screen, but at least it was crystal clear and I could change the display options. Now the display options are missing, and all text and menus are poor resolution despite my computer's native display resolution or changing the HUD size.

Can you replicate the issue?
Yes. Happens every time I open the game. Unistalled/reinstalled game, updated computer, restarted.

What I'd suggest is a full clean reinstall of the game:

- move any valued save games elsewhere; they are under
~/Library/Application Support/Surviving Mars/{large number}/
- "uninstall" in Steam-Surviving Mars
- manually delete both the ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Surviving Mars AND ~/Library/Application Support/Surviving Mars/ folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam SM or Application Support SM locations, before installing again.

Good luck with that!

It doesn't work, and this "bug" still actual exist.
Even if you'll try change resolution in LocalStorage.lua - after game start, it'll be reseted to 1496, 934 in my case.
For example I've tried set it to 1920*1200

You have the missing display options and so on, also? Because that stuff all works fine on my iMac for instance.

Please attach here the latest log from the game :

~/Library/Application Support/Surviving Mars/logs/

To find that file, in Finder do cmd-shift-G to bring up the GOTO box. In there paste ~/Library/ . You will see a /Application Support/ folder, and inside that /Surviving Mars/ and then a /logs/ folder. Please attach the latest file from in there to here by dropping it on this support ticket, or use the "Attach file" link here.

Also in Steam please click on Steam-Help-System Info, and paste everything there into a text file and attach that here.

Thank you for reply.

I've realised that game applies the same resolution as desktop, and doesn't give option to change it. (it also worked on Mac mini M1 in same way)

Ah, I see you are on an M1 Mac. This game has not (and at this stage I suspect never will be) ported to native M1 code so we are reliant on Apple's Rosetta emulation. I've seen that cause similar visual issues on several games now. In some cases it has improved with newer MacOS versions.

I don't yet have an M1 Mac to test this on (waiting for the 27" iMac!). @AG_MarkPittam does Abstraction have access to one to diagnose this issue on, do you know?
