There is no more information than you see here already - Apple and Paradox are looking into it. There is no available timeline, indeed no guarantee it can or will be fixed, I'm afraid.

The bottom line is that, assuming you are on Apple Silicon, that is not and has never been supported hardware for this game. The game does run on Macs with supported hardware:
  • Processor: 4th Generation Intel i3 CPU or equivalent
  • Graphics: OpenGL 4.1 (GeForce 600/AMD Radeon 5000 or higher) with 1GB of video RAM

Please seek a refund for your purchase.

Seems like we've been forgotten. That's absolutely frustrating. Especially in the context that the same game works fine in Epic Games Store (i.e. the problem can be quickly solved, but the publisher does not care).
Well, it's Ventura problem, worked fine on Monterey. Also seems that install from GOG client doesn't work anymore for some reason, but I have to
download "offline backup", then install separately. All in all game works, it is launcher problem... same with Planetfall that I have on Steam...

Same here, worked for Ventura forever, then one night, it didnt. Cleared download cache, reinstalled steam and SM multiple times. I give up on the Mac. Going back to PC. This isn't right. 2400 hours so far and its just sad there's no help.

Presumably that one night was when MacOS was updated? Because this issue is only known to occur on the unsupported Apple Silicon hardware, with recent MacOS versions.

As mentioned above we are working with Apple on this (as it was their change that broke it), but cannot guarantee it can be fixed.

Same here.

macOS Ventura with Chip M1 Pro

I bought it today on my steam account and the game does not start.
Steam doesn't want to refund my money. They don't want to refund the money the way I paid, they want to credit me on my Steam account and I don't want that, I want my money back! I feel cheated because the game says it's compatible with macOs and after purchase I can't play or get my money back.

The game IS compatible with MacOS, but that doesn't mean it runs on any hardware that MacOS does - the game's published hardware requirements explicitly state an Intel CPU. Similarly under Windows or Linux; the machine it is installed on needs to meet both the OS and hardware minimums.

Steam normally refund no questions asked if you've had the game less than 2 weeks and have less than 2 hours in "you've played" in Steam. If you've exceeded those then I'm afraid we have no way to make them refund you!

If you have access to a machine with supported hardware you can of course play it there; otherwise we all have to hope that Apple come though with a fix in a future MacOS/Rosetta update.

Hey, guys! So, my colony in Surviving Mars is in trouble, and it's all because of technical issues with the game on my M1 Mac running Mac OS Ventura. I can't even run the game, which means my poor little colonists are stuck on Mars without air, water, or electricity.

And to make matters worse, I just got a message from my colony that they're in the middle of a Martian storm, which means they're now completely cut off from the outside world. I mean, I can't help them even if I wanted to! My little colonists are probably huddled in their domes, shivering and starving, wondering why their so-called commander abandoned them.

Paradox and Steam, if you're listening, please fix this issue soon! I mean, I don't want to be responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Martian colonists, but at this rate, I don't see how my colonists are going to survive much longer. And believe me, I don't think the rest of the universe is going to take too kindly to a bunch of suffocating, freezing colonists popping up all over the galaxy.

So, if you guys could hurry up and fix the game, that would be great. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we're all counting on you. Thanks!

THANKS SO MUCH! I struggled a little with this exact command, but managed to get it working by doing this (via bash):

for i in {1..10};do ~/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Surviving\ Mars/MarsSteam.app/Contents/MacOS/MarsSteam;done
Hey so I can confirm that this terminal code does work for me :)!!!

However I changed the command to open the game 100 times instead of ten (replace with "{1..100}"). Even then, running this larger command takes about ten tries to break through whatever issue this is. So yeah forcing the game to open roughly 1000+ times on average does the trick for me.

If you still have this issue before some kind of actual fix I encourage you to be patient and try this method until it works.

It turns out the comment on clicking the game repeatedly might not have been a joke. I was able to launch it by pasting an open command 10 times in the terminal:
open -Fa /Users/matthieu/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Surviving\ Mars/MarsSteam.app/Contents/MacOS/MarsSteam
open -Fa /Users/matthieu/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Surviving\ Mars/MarsSteam.app/Contents/MacOS/MarsSteam

open -Fa /Users/matthieu/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Surviving\ Mars/MarsSteam.app/Contents/MacOS/MarsSteam

(replace the user path with yours to do it, but it works...)
OMG!!!
I tried to run this command like 300 times and one of them worked and now it seems to work on normal boot.

I adapted the command to the game path on my mac and it looked like this:
Code:
for i in {1..100};do /Users/roberto/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Surviving\ Mars/MarsSteam.app/Contents/MacOS/MarsSteam;done

PD1: I can start the game using Crossover! There is a glitch when rendering text, but hey, now I'm on it. Now I'm going to see if I can play.
PD2: It is 100% playable, and works properly even everything in ultra and 3.5K. Without any audio problems and only with the permanent glitch in the texts, specifically in the space characters.

Not even using Windows Vista have I seen so many errors together...

I'm trying to play on a 16-inch MacBook Pro, the 2021 model with the M1 Pro chip and 16GB of RAM.
I'll try using Crossover, I'm hopeful.
