Research credits lost from anomaly if no research is selected [win10]

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
When starting off, usually find an anomaly close. I forgot to select a research to start on and when anomaly was found was granted 1000 research points, but they were applied to nothing. Selected a research item after had to start at 0.
Can you replicate the issue?
probably. Just start a new game, scan an anomaly. Dont select any research.
