Congrats on finishing Part II!

I don't know if the 'Empire' (can you really call it an empire now?) will return to its past glories with the change in system of governance...

Yeah, change was bound to occur. I'm surprised that the entire Empire still remains though and that no territories (aside from Anatolia) seceded from Taurica like when the Helioklides and Taurides dynasties fell. I mean yes according to the new system they seem to have very high autonomy but they're still part of the Empire as a whole.

So Taurica is basically the HRE now for EU4? Does that mean that dynasties will be switching around upon succession (unless someone of the same dynasty is elected, that is)?

It's been fun reading through this AAR and I'm looking forward to the EU4 part.

The empire lost everything in the south, Greece, Anatolia and the southern Caucasus, Ryazan in the north. These wars were not really about disintegration or separation, but about changing the ruler or increasing the autonomy. In practice, administrative empires have no basis for internal disintegration, these factions do not exist, which is strange.

We will now follow the new dynasty ruling the great Taurican principality, the Zoticids.

So, Taurica now has a choice, once again: north or south?

Do they go after Anatolia again, and try to regain the historical empire, or make a new one, going as far north and as far east as they can go? EUIV really is the last chance they have of going south and hold it, but also the game where Anatolia becomes far less wealthy and relevant compared to simply having as large a population, and as many ocean connections, as possible.

It will turn out.

Congrats on completing part 2. Interesting how you're going for a HRE style empire in EU4 especially with an emperor with no legitimacy.

Wonder if the old power fades as the new powers on the atlantic rise.

The army's support gave legitimacy and ended the conflict.

Congrats on finishing Part II!

I don't know if the 'Empire' (can you really call it an empire now?) will return to its past glories with the change in system of governance...

Thanks, I will try to centralize it.

Thanks, I hope to gain a dominant position within 2 centuries and then move east to the Pacific sometime in the early 16th century.

Tauriskos the Stallion is an awesome name. Also, his defeat of the Magyars was nice.

Were the Muttunbaal Guards intended to protect all empresses or just Muttunbaal herself? Do they still exist? If not, when did they collapse? The ascenson of Leukon? The beginning of the Warring States Period?

Leukon getting a wolf was awesome. It's events like that that make CK good material for narratives.

Do you have any ideas about works that Tauriskos III sponsored? Are there Taurican epic poems?

I love how the entry for Tauriskos III mentions how he was a great patron of culture, and then the game goes and says, "yeah, he was shameless adulterer and will be remembered for his treachery". The contrast is hilarious.

I wonder if Aratos II won that competition on skill alone or if his position as emperor helped influence the judges.

Gorgippos Hyrcanis seemed to rule through a series of puppet emperors - Theophilos III, Tauriskos IV, and even Theodoros I. I can see why the rebels believe that Theophilos's death was not natural. Perhaps the gods favor Gorgippos since Theophilos did die due to complications due to inbreeding? Still, his blatant powergrabbing was never going to get him many friends. I am not surprised that he eventually claimed the throne, though.

Was that Holy War for Moravia a sign of future Nicene Christian holy wars?

RIP the Alexandrid Dynasty!

I appreciated the religion update.

Is Gaea a god or something more like an angel in Omonarchism?

It's nice to see Manichaeism doing well.

The Zafrid Caliphate is going to be a threat. At least the Middle East is between them and Taurica.

Are there any unreformed Norse pagans left?

I like the idea of Yasenism. Still, I can see a potential problem with their theology - namely, the possibility that bodies might be alive but lack souls. Do they believe that? If they do, how do they determine which bodies have souls? Do they treat those bodies differently?

Did Corsica and Sardinia gain their independence as separate states or as one united realm? They look separate on the map, and they were united by Hyrcanos IV’s time.

Did Carthage want to regain their old lands in Iberia?

How did the Sapmi unite? Or is showing Sapmi as a single state just a measure to make mapmaking easier?

I don't think that the Afrasiabid Empire will survive much longer without Taurica's aid, especially due to the new Caliphate.

The Magyars remain in the Steppe. I wonder if they'll ever settle down anywhere.

The Syberi Empire is Siberia, correct?

If the Tyrasian, Oldian, and Tanaisi houses were all descended from the Alexandrids, why did none of them attempt to claim the throne? After all, the Hyrcanis house's claim is based on a lineage that these houses share.

Those Varangians seem like they would be annoying.

Hyrcanos II died in battle at Smolensk? It didn't save Northern Taurica, but I suppose they'll be remembered for something.

Was Hyrcanos III responsible for the murder of his relatives?

What states did the Varangians form on Northern Taurica's ashes? Was it just two kingdoms that Taurica conquered later?

Satyros III married a relative? Did he learn nothing from the fall of the Alexandrid Dynasty?

Congrats on defeating Western Taurica!

Piodmundr's new dynasty should add some flavor to the new Taurica.

Why didn't Satyros V simply arrange a different Western marriage for Melissa?

What happened to Pantikapaion now that the government's based in Satyria?

Are the governors of the new provinces and themes hereditary? They're administrative, right? So the answer would be no?

It's nice to see the formation of the Varangian Guard?

Prytanis II clearly understood the principle of bread and circuses. Still, he defeated the Cuman-Kipchak Khanate, so I suppose a few indulgences are allowed.

Won't Hyrcanos IV’s conquest of Colchis create fears of Taurican expansion into Anatolia?

Did Prytanis III's chariot races cause tension? After all, chariot races were a source of great tension during the historical Eastern Roman Empire... also, who was Prytanis cheering for?

Prytanis III did well defeating the Crusade.

Sardinia conquered large portions of Punic North Africa? Good for them!

How did Finland form?

I'm rooting for Levonbrintia. Defeat the Vikings!

There are two Carpathias? That's got to be confusing.

Will the Zafrid example inspire future caliphates?

RIP Tayuan.

What happened to Songhay?

RIP the Zhou. I am interested in who will ultimately claim the Mandate of Heaven.

Let's hope that Sosthenes II's alliances don't embroil Taurica in too many wars.

Satyros the Adventurer is a very interesting figure. Will his travels and arbitration have an effect on the diplomacy of the Taurican Empire as a collective?

Satyros also seems to be a bit of a budding archaeologist or historian...

How useful will Hasti's book be to future historians? *wink*

Wu is a Khanate? What tribe does the dynasty that rules it hail from?

Will we see the fate of Hailing and Tingi after Satyros's death in this megacampaign?

Why would the Taurican Emperor (who isn't Christian) care about a fragment of the Crown of Thorns (a Christian artifact)?

Will Satyros or his descendants ever attempt to use the Dice of Fate?

RIP Satyros. He was a legend.

What happened to Gaul between 1000 AD and when Satyrus arrived? It completely balkanized.

Why didn't Prytanis IV betroth Aspasia to his heir? Was the marriage matrilineal?

Hieronymos IV was very ruthless.

Congrats on capturing Byzantium. Now you control the Black Sea... will there be tolls? There should be some advantage to controlling that sea.

Theodoros II died early, but his successor's long reign makes up for it.

Why did the Persians suddenly betray your alliance?

Is Aegyptia related to Egypt in any way? Her name is weird for Taurica in this time period.

Congrats on conquering Greece and Anatolia.

Theodoros IV was remarkably inactive against threats to his allies and co-religionists... which is weird, as he definitely wasn't tired of war, given his attack on Epirus.

Empress Ariste seems like the most politically active empress in a while.

Is Saxony in the best position to unite Germany?

How did Lappland form?

That Estonia is... big. I kind of want to see them succeed.

How did Cyprus take over the Levant anyway?

Spartokos VII had many wives. Still, why didn't the High Priest have an issue with his remarriage after Cecek's death? His words seems a little late.

Gorgippos III might have overreached.

Congrats on beating back the Mongols, even if you failed to win an outright victory.

How long will it take the Mongols to seize the Mandate of Heaven by force?

Why did Ulujin allow the Varangians to seize treasures from the palace? Given her Mongol heritage, one might think that she'd take issue with that practice, no matter how traditional it is by this point.

The plague is not kind to the Taurican Emperors. Will it lead to another collapse?

RIP the unified Mongol Empire.

Will Taurica follow a path similar to the HRE or the PLC? Or will it manage a third, more stable option?

1. The guard of of Empress Muttunbaal did not survive the period of the dissolution of the empire, it served subsequent empresses.
2. The poetry of this period will be mentioned along with cultural developments in part 3, such were the intentions of any mentions of cultural developments in part 2
3. Aratos II, and most emperors, won tournaments thanks to the game mechanics and their high stats.
4. Holy War for Moravia was a harbinger of religious conflicts, I myself expected the AI to declare a crusade against the lands of the empire but it never happened, which was strange for me.
5. All deities were relegated to a role similar to angels in Christianity, with Gaia playing the real role of patroness of motherhood.
6. No, Nordic paganism did not survive.
7. Yasenism priests have special ceremonies that determine these issues. And such individuals are shun by others.
8. Corsica and Sardinia broke free separately but were later united as a commercial republic.
9. Carthage tried but quickly fell apart.
10. Showing Sapmi as a single state was a measure to make mapmaking easier when transferring saves.
11. The funny thing is that the empire did not survive but the Afrasiabi family continued to exist long after the fall to Turkish Persia as minor rulers.
12. Magyars evolved into a new culture Bogyers is mentioned in part 3.
13. Syberi Empire is Siberia, yes it was a typo.
14. Tyrasian, Oldian, and Tanaisi houses existed as plot points.
15. The Varangians were a nuisance at that time.
16. Yes, Hyrcanos III, killed all of those who were before him in line for the throne.
17. Yes, just these two, that kingdoms that Taurica conquered later.
18. Satyros III, married a distant relative.
19. Melissa herself died shortly after, her fiancé.
20. Pantikapaion is still an important city of cultural and religious importance.
21. Yes, the governorships were not hereditary.
22. The expansion of the empire into Anatolia was slow at first, but only in the 12th century did it accelerate.
23. Prytanis III and others Tauric emperors, did not publicly show favoritism towards one particular chariot team, and tried to remain impartial as organizers. These were propaganda events.
24. Finland was founded by Scandinavian adventurers.
25. The Carpathian Empire did not survive and only one Carpathia remained.
26. Islam and the caliphs no longer exist by the early 14th century, Islam being relegated to the role of a second-rate religion practiced by very few people.
27. Songhai, fell apart due to struggles for the throne and inheritance.
28. Satyros the Adventurer can be seen as one of the most important historical figures who was not a ruler, his travels gave the empire a great deal of knowledge about the eastern world. His information would be used by others in the 16th century.
29. Hasti's work in the form of her book is rather a strange - peculiar, literary historical work. It is possible that I will use it in some way, but it will probably also be in the Victorian period.
30. Wu was ruled by a dynasty of Manchu origin.
31. Hailing and Tingi may return in the story but probably in part 4 or at the end of part 3.
32. Crown of Thorns gave the owner prestige, and even non-Christian rulers gave nice bonuses in the game. Onomarchism is a syncretic belief.
33. Dice of Fate were given to the quest giver.
34. Satyros was then in the domain of the Alamean king, so his vassals were seen as independent domains.
35. Yes, the marriage with Aspasia was matrilineal, the AI wanted no other.
36. Tariffs and tolls were used by the empire all the time, trade and being a middleman in the exchange of goods made it an extremely rich state. In the game, these mechanics do not exist, but we can imagine that the rulers of the empire used their position to accumulate known resources in this way.
37. Persia, or rather the Turkish ruling dynasty, attacked the empire, and I honestly cannot explain it in any logical way except as a sudden attack of madness suffered by Meta I at that time.
38. Aegyptia, as a name, was not common, but it appeared because it was available in the game files.
39. Theodoros IV was not, but I was, especially since about 40 percent of the events were omitted, minor wars and help for insignificant princes and counts etc.
40. Saxony was in a good place to unite Germania, but the Black Death and other plagues came and everything went wrong.
41. Lappland emerged from Giemajohka.
42. Cyprus inherited some principalities in the Levant from where it expanded its areas.
43. Spartacus VII had three wives, it was about the speed with which the emperor took subsequent wives without an appropriate period of mourning.
44. The Mongols, or rather Temujin, were very effective as they used the conquest of entire imperial territories. It took maybe less than 30 years.
45. Ulujin was more busy with other things at that time.
46. The plagues did not lead to complete disintegration but to significant political change.
47. It's hard to say the empire in 1500 AD was still an elective system.
