Will we be able to build a taxi company and have city-issued taxis pick up fares around the city?

Here is how I think it should work. Once a taxi company is constructed, they drive around the city looking for fares. Cims who don't own a car and have no access to public transport will be prime fares for them. When such a cim leave their house, they will stand on the curb and hail a nearby cab (or call one if there aren't any nearby). A taxi will come from the company lot (or from the street if the taxi is nearby) and pick up the cim from their home. The taxi will then drive the cim to their destination. The cim will exit the taxi, and the taxi continues on its way.

Also, you can set the area where each taxi company have their taxis patrol. Each one would have their own company colors, as well.

On a side note, the taxi stands... as well as bus terminals and such should be universal.

I hate that in some of the games, if you have 3 bus stations, you have to drop a bus stop sign for each one, even if you wanted the busses to stop in the same area.

However, taxis are needed because there are people who do not use public transport and in any case must be part of the scenery of the game. I also would be enough taxis that are only part of the aesthetics of the game.
Taxis that go up and down between a station and a house, an airport and a house and so on, just as it was in Sim City 4.

Srsly? Taxis? Don't you think there are slightly more important things CO could be working on, like actual game mechanics instead of some very minor detail? They're only 12 people, you know.

Of course CO has to work on the game mechanics, but taxis are an important part of a modern city especially one with skyscrapers. Besides, I don't think it should be all that hard to implement. Artistically it's simple and making them a functional part of a cim's transportation options shouldn't be all that difficult.

Agreed. I wanna build a city not manage a taxi company. Sure the city should have taxis in it but not with any micromanagement aspects. I'd rather tunnels, bigger farms, quarries, airports and harbours.

What SC5 had was that taxis were just decoration. When tourists were driving around the city instead of taking public transport, they would either be in a car or in a taxi. The taxis were just cars that only tourists would use basically. Obviously, like everything in SC5, there was an annoying problem. The taxis were just too common and all the cars on the streets were taxis.

Not forgetting of course that all the taxies would flock to about three places in the city, and remain there forevermore causing a regional traffic jam

My two cents here though would be that yes, the city should control at least the larger taxi infrastructure, but micromanagement would get very tedious very fast. I also agree that bus stands and taxi ranks should be universal, adding more routes to the stand rather than adding more stands per route!

I've always disliked this attitude. If we don't come up with new ideas then we might as well just keep playing simcity 4. Games need to progress and by stating that the team is only 12 people sounds like you don't think they are good enough to make a great game. Technology has progressed and I'm sure the game makers have too. Sure the base game needs to be good but why stifle people's imagination especially on a forum for a game in development. A game with just the basics might be fun but a game with detail is better. IMHO

Don't you think a taxi/bus/train system would be concidered an actual game mechanic? Or are you looking for cities XL redone? People complain that the devs in some games make a subpar game then rely on the modders to make the details. I find a game that the devs make with these details included well out weighs the need to try to add mods with some back end file/folder hunt and file replacements only to find it doesn't quite work as intended.

I fully support having taxis in game. However I agree with those who would like taxi companies to pop up privately and be influenced by our policies and infrastructure (taxi ranks, bus lanes etc.) rather than be ploppable and controlled fully by the player.

Taxi cabs are great for VIP and locals alike to get around the city in short notice because of time limit problems. There great for servicing people at the airport and social functions etc. Limos can do that job for higher end type of taxi cabs. Competition between companies are great too for setting price standards.

nice, this could have a lot of potential. imagine the taxi company with the real crime simulation where the owners of taxi's would threaten your public transport workers.
