I would suggest including leader/minister and tech pics only as a separate download, to give people with low bandwidth a chance to download the mod in less than a day ;) , this would cut download in close to half. Good or bad?

I don't think the watered down version should be totally stripped of graphics - at least, I think the leader and minister pictures should be included in both.

As we are going to be making both ModDir and clean-installation versions available, then it would be sensible to remove the bulk of the tech pictures from the clean-install version and have one picture called 'dummy.bmp', while leaving pictures which actually display something, not the generic picture I made. The reason why the ModDir download will include so many indentical generic tech pictures is to prevent normal HOI pictures appearing in TGW - in other words, pictures of nukes and jet planes appearing for 1918-era technology

So the ModDir version should have all the tech pics, whilst the clean-installation version should include only those pictures of value.

Allenby, could you please upload the techpictures1.zip again and tell me when it's done, I can't get the archive to open. And I can't find your new and nice background set, could you hand them to me also?

/Johan

I'll upload them, but it will be down to you to download them....I don't want to go into the pantomine of trying to email them again. ;)

Then there's probably no idea with a lite-version, leader and minister pictures are the big concern when it comes to size of the download...

Sure! And by the way, those missing emails you tried to send at first, they appeared in my mailbox today... Snail-mail exists on the internet also... :)

Assuming that the internal release is not full of problems (there seems to be no negative reports so far), when should we make 1.02 public? Some time tomorrow evening? 1930 GMT would suit me fine...unless anyone has any objections :)

As long as nothing seems wrong, I'll aim for tomorrow evening at an unspecified time. :) One thing I'm going to do tomorrow is to look over tech costs and times, they aren't edited a bit since vanilla HoI, and is thus probably not very representative for their corresponding tech. :eek:o

BTW, run a few hands-off games to get the general look of the scenario as it is right now.

There don't seem to be any of those "can't start the game" issues. However, playing a hands-off game, the game ended up hanging on may 1915. (seems like a offset = 0 issue)

EDIT : it's the twenty one demands japanese event. I thought we had squashed that one?!

There were a couple of other issues in that game, but I don't know if we should start discussing game balance or if we're just looking for game-killing bugs.

That's strange  I got rid of all of those 'offset = 0' problems on my event files....my version before this ran past May 1915....

We're looking for bugs primarily, although the balance of the game is just as important, and we might as well hear of any problems of that nature as soon as possible.

We had...it seems to have reappeared in the time that I sorted the problem out, sent the files to Johan and you downloading the team version.

Seems like I forgot to change one tiny of these offset = 0 in the japanese file (I'm not just copying all files sent to me, over those I've got, since there may be changes I or someone else has done that will be lost if I do a copy-paste)... :( Well, good we spotted it now and not after going public. Will of course be fixed in the public version, when I release it tomorrow.

The unitnames.csv file I sent you hasn't been put in either...

Shall be done. :eek:o Hope there isn't anything more of the stuff you sent that I've forgotten/missed to include. Got a bit cunfused when trying to merge my work, with version 1.01b, with the files you sent, plus a few more files that wasn't included in 1.01b... :)

This internal release (ModDir format) did not come with any dummy minister or leader files....the ones I sent must be passed on to Stephen so that he can compile the ModDir version and that dummy files go into the correct folders without manual interference from the user.

There are various problems with the country.inc files which I solved - these are fixed on the country.inc files that I sent to Johan:

Firstly, Russia is aligned as 'Absolutist', yet will inevitably leave the Entente. In the country.inc files that I sent, this problem is fixed.

Secondly, Jebel Shammar is unrealistically a puppet of Nejd. This was fixed in the country.inc files that I sent.

Thirdly, Oman is not a puppet of the British Empire when it should be - this was fixed in the country.inc files that I sent.

Fourth, British and Japanese war entry levels were set to -100 in my country.inc files to prevent them from going to war prematurely - Japan generally DOWs China otherwise, and Britain has even declared war on Germany. In the download, they appear as 0, not -100.

Fifth, I purged various territorial claims in my country.inc files - China's to Mongolia, Manchuria, Tibet and Nepal, Russia's claim to South Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands, Turkey's claims to Hejaz, Yemen, Nejd, Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia and Albania, and added Rashidi claims to Nejd and Saudi claims to Jebel Shammar.

Dont forget setting everybody's DI to -100!

Assuming the +100 DI event has been sorted out that is.

I did not write that event seeing as its purpose was to stop unnatural diplomatic manoeuvrings - Belgium granting access to Germany for example - and that this can be fixed by removing various countries from the 'attempt to influence' part of the AI files, it did not seem necessary. However, should it seem necessary to put something like what you suggest in, then I shall do in future versions. :)

Two more things I'd like to point out - the 'British Empire' flag simply looks like the Royal Navy flag from a distance, and thus I would much prefer the Union Jack. Firstly, because it keeps in with our practice of using state flags, and secondly, because I've never seen the British Empire flag in my life. Additionally, having Kitchener's 'Your Country Needs You' as a Propaganda Poster is a must.

I tend to agree about the British flag. I'd never seen that (is it real?), and it does look like the naval ensign at game size.

BTW, I installed a clean mod, I didn't place it in the directory where I had 1.01b to avoid keeping any corrected stuff (like the dummy files) and there were no mismatches. However, the base db dir still had them, so I can't say whether or not there are files missing there.

As far as I know, this won't change anything (has it made any difference?), because at the files I've looked at, Japan has got a warentry of over 400 the times they've declared war on China, -100 minus doesn't bother them. And, I haven't seen them declare war in the few games I've run so far.

Fair enough. It wasn't me who chose to include the flag anyway, it was chosen to represent that you in fact is controlling the EMPIRE of Britain, not the STATE, but I've done a little research and it seems to be very unusual, so, I'll remove it.

Even though I like the look of the currently included one (nice color) better, I'll give in to the demands of you. ;)

Another thing - my updated leader and minister files were not included in this download. :) Luckily, Johan has them.

I'll send you the new version later, and you can check out if I've managed to point out and include all changes.

What do you mean? That you get db errors while starting a game? It shouldn't happen, as my version installed starts without any problems...
