tech level for mercenaries

Do mercenaries have the same tech level as my capitol province or is their tech leven based on something else?

Totally unrelated but, if I allow my Turkish* son to inherit will I be able to field horse archers?


* There are several Turkish Orthodox dynasties in the game now and the Turkish girl was selected as my grandson's wife while he wasn't part of my court.

Mercenaries take the tech from the province that they come, that is not your capital but the provinces are set in the mercenary-events, f.e. the Welsh bowmen have the tech-level of one of the Welsh provinces.

The only nations which have horse-archers are the Mongols and for Orthodox-rulers there is a mercenary-unit who has them. Horse-archers therefor only appear by events.
