Hi all !

I have a problem with EU. I FINALLY bought it, only to discover that it crashed for no apparent reason whatsoever. My computer meets, and exeeds, the system requirements. It crashed mostly when I declared war, but it could also do it at other times. I persuaded the shop where I bought it to take it back, but I wanna know what the probable cause was. Was it my PC, or the game itself that was the problem ?

My PC has 128 RAM, 750 megaherz, and 20 GB HDD.
Please e-mail me if you have an answer.

As you no longer have the game we will now never know!
Did you download the latest patch?
Did you read the thread "running problems" in the support forum?
etc etc
All academic without the Game as we cannot try anything out. :(

There were several problems with earlier versions of EU1 crashing to the desktop. Most of them have been fixed in the various upgrade patches - I believe the most recent is version 1.10, while the most advanced release version I'm aware of is the North American version, which was 1.07. (The game came out earlier in Europe, so yours may have even been more primitive than that.)

Patches

Sorry if my questions are supid, but I'm new to this...
1: Can I download these patches from this site ?
2: Are they free ? If not, what price range are we talking about ?
3: How large are they ?
4: If I download a patch, will it then overwrite my version, making Denmark not playable ?
5: I don't have net acces from the computer on which EU is installed, so can I just save the patch on a disk, and then transfer the patch ? How do I go about that matter ?

1,2,3 see the thread "latest patch". They are free.
4- download the version appropriate to the language you have
5- yes you can do it.
Download the patch to a temporary folder on your hard disk drive, then go to Windows Explorer, select the file (remember the location), right-click, select cut, click on your A: drive (floppy) and right-click again this time selecting "paste". the file is now on your disk. repeat the above procedure once you're back home and paste the file in the EU (or EU 2) folder, than double-click on the file to execute it.

Problems 2

Does anyone know where I can get diskettes which can contain 3,5 MB ? The reason is that vers. 1,10 is 3,3 MB, too big for any disk I can find...

download a Shareware called Winzip (you have 30 days to try it) and there will be an option to "span disk" (I don't remember exactly how it works, I don't have it anymore on my computer), this will let you compress the file over several diks (in your case, 3 1.44mb disks). You will need the same software on your home computer or another one called Eunzipper that you will find here.

Winzip is the best software for this, but it won't fit on your disk, so you won't be able to bring it home. So you need a smaller one that will fit on one disk.

If Eunzipper doesn't work, try here or this site with many links to shareware/freeware zip utility. Pay attention to "file size" as you'll need something smaller than 1.4mb to fit on one diskette. Once you have a uninstaller on this computer, bring over Winzip from the other one, it will be simpler for you to use the same software on both place.

Re(2). Problems 2

Merci beaucoup :D I'll try that and get back if it doesn't work.

no problem :)

Version

What version of Winzip is it ? I installed vers. 8,0, and I can't find the function anywhere.

From the HELP files:-

WinZip® makes it easy to create Zip files that “span” multiple disks. This is useful if the files you are working with will not fit on one disk.

To make a Zip file that spans multiple disks, simply create a Zip file on a removable disk, then add files to the Zip as you normally would. If the disk fills during Add operation, you will be prompted for another disk. Simply insert the next disk and click the OK button.
Important: disk spanning is not available when adding files to an existing archive; it is only available while creating a new archive. Also note that you cannot add or remove files from a Zip file that spans disks. WinZip requires pre-formatted disks (you can format disks using My Computer or Windows Explorer).

Example:
To zip the files in your c:\data folder to a Zip file called A:\DATA.ZIP:

1. Start WinZip.
2. Drag and drop the c:\data folder from My Computer or Windows Explorer to the WinZip window.
3. In the Add dialog box, type the filename of the Zip file (A:\DATA.ZIP).
4. Click the Add button.

If more than one disk is needed, you will be prompted for additional disks.

Embarrasing...

Look what comes out of not looking into the "help"-files... Sorry :(
I have done it, and now I hope that my problems are solved.

Succes!

Hear ye, hear ye ! :)

I've got EU working now. Sometimes it still crashes, but not that often now, and often it's when my PC has been running for hours on end, so it might be "exhaustion" :)
Thanx for the help !

you're welcome :)
