Technically illiterate, need help

Any help would be appreciated. I have a few questions:

1. I downloaded 1.04a, and think I have loaded it correctly. Is there any way to be sure?

2. I downloaded the beta, but can't get it to work. Can someone please give a step by step (for dummies) walkthrough on how to install the beta.

3. Could also use a step by step (for dummies) walkthrough on how to install the patch, to make sure I did it right.

4. Could use a link to the beta, in case I need to download it again.

1. it works with all patches (betas and non betas) : just load the game and wait until the first screen appears (the one with single player, mutliplayer options). There you will be able to see, in the top right corner, the version you are playing.

2. If I remember correctly the beta patches are .rar archive. To open these you need winrar on your computer. If you have it you just have to double click on the beta, it will launch automatically winrar, then you to click on the "extract to" button. there you will chose where you want to extract the beta (the CK directory).

With Winrar you need to remember it to use "full path names" or something so the files that go to subdirectories really go there, I think that setting is on automatically. When the program asks if you want to overwrite existing files select "yes to all", it´s really straightforward.
