this is my last paradox game i bought! again the manual is non existing, and my main frustration is that i want to play as 1 of the religious orders, as it was advertised on the net, but guess.... you cant play ANY of those orders without in depth knowledge of the game engine (which i dont have)..
this is most annoying; futher more, as described before by many CK players, the orders simply steal your land, you cant ally with them, you cant vassalize them, SO WHY IN GODS NAME ARE THEY IN THE GAME ??????????????? :mad: thanks ever so much paradox. paradox makes good game concepts, i must admit, but i live in belgium, i have been searching for EU 2 for a long time, never ever found it; same for EU 1 (had to buy it in Holland) what is up with these folks?
please bring us a patch so i can become GRANDMASTER of the Templar Knights, for which i bought the game ( i also bought it simply because it was a paradox game - but i am quite dissapointed)

can anyone help me adjust the file so i can play the orders? with real specific instructions if possible...

a desparate crusader

thanks in advance

Well the biggest issue playing with Knight Orders is that Grandmasters are elected among the knights, so keeping one dynasty could be quite hard. If you are willing to play "king of Templars" workaround, that can be done. If that is a tolerable workaround, I can post instructions on how-to.

Well, first of all you need to have the Order as an existing entity (which it doesn't in 1066 or 1187 scenario). So I will so how to change Venice into king of Templars, mostly because Venice has no vassals and is also unplayable in normal game.

- First of all, take backup of all 1066-scenario files (all files starting 1066_scenario in the Scenarios folder).
- After taking the backup, open 1066_scenario_titles.inc, search for entry VENI, change both appearances of VENI into TEMP (or HOSP for Hospitalers or TEUT for Teutonics)
- Then open 1066_scenario_countries.inc, again search for entry VENI. Change VENI to TEMP (or HOSP / TEUT if you picked them above). Then change form_of_goverment to feudal.
- Open 1066_scenario_characters.inc, change all VENI - entries into TEMP (or HOSP / TEUT, as above).
- Then finally open 1066_scenario.eug, Add among the country entries this entry (using HOSP / TEUT if preferred):
Code:
   TEMP = {
        gender = male
        type = kingdom
        dna = "00000000000000"
        title = { TEMP C356 }
        }

Now you are able to play as a king of Templar Order (or Hospitalers Order / Teutonic Order) while having Venice as your starting base.

Pleased to help.

Though, I haven't tried out playing as feudal knight order before, so if you get problems with it, please post what happened here and I (or somebody else) can try to help you out.

Playable Templar

sure, will do; i can imagine that the name grandmaster will not appear (still busy with it) and the graphics, with the cool red cross, may not be the same either but i will let you know as soon as i fire up a game....

thanks again

Ehr... so you want to become Grand Master? Very well, but... The Grandmaster title was NOT hereditary... and, even better, Grandmasters could not marry, neither have (legitimal) descendency. I think that this is the reason why the Military Orders are not playable...

So... Ok, let's become Grand Master, but know that your dinastic line ends there :)

Unless you are corrupt, of course...
(Homer Simpson: Yahooo!!!!)

Well, there were plenty of ads proclaiming that while the Orders would not be directly playable, you could control them by getting a relative elected GM. Yeah, well... :rolleyes:

Playable Templar

well, so i played a game, like stated i was king and not grandmaster; the decendancy issue is there allright... its playable now, lots of thanks to all, but its not really the same as having your own knight order to conquer the Holy Land...
now i will try to play as the muslim tribes; Allahoe Akbar! :cool:
