Would force one into more consideration, if that is the case.

One of the more recent patches changed it so you can't break off an assault once initiated. As stated, this does make you think. Take along eighty or so cannon and just siege the place. Certainly in the early game it's much more efficient!:)

I used to assault-stop-assault-stop-assault-stop the enemy fortress. Since everytime you stop the cannon is fired and the fortress loses strenght, I always conquered enemy provinces in a few days.
But the game became tooo easy so I installed the patch.

However the lesser of 2 eveils was chosen! Besides retreating hastily from a losing attack is xure to cause many more victims. When losing an assault the 2nd part can easily be considered the retreat with additinal losses.

Exactly. The "Run Away, run away, run away!!!" ala Monty Python fame usually happens when your troop's moral is "Panic".

From previous posts, Johan has stated that assults are intended to continue until the city is taken or the assult fails. No in between.

In real-life terms, it makes sense. An army flings itself upon a city's defenses, they either take the town or encounter such great losses that they fall back. There is no Time Out in war. :)

And when the town is taken.............well, I guess I don't need to spell out to anyone the reasons for the sudden loss of population of the locale! :(

(Badajoz.)

i think you can end an assault by selecting the assualt froce, and retreating to a diff prov. i found this out by accident, and dont recommend it as you have to build morale from breaking, re invade prov, and start seige from scratch.
on a completely different topic, be careful which army you have selected before you try to move an army:eek:

man, I missed that exploit when it was patched out...then I just dragged around 200 or so cannon when out on campaign... :)
