Uh, so I don't remember when this problem cropped up, I just assumed it'd be corrected in a patch, and because it doesn't affect gameplay I kind of just ignored it. I think it started when I switched to the 1.05 series of patches, but I guess it could've been in 1.04 as well. Definitely wasn't present under earlier patches (i.e. 1.03) or the RC, so I don't think it's an issue with my video card or anything.

Adjust the Gamma video settings within the game to be below about 50%. It will be fine.

Didn't work, everything did get darker (including the UI), but that whiteness is still there.

As I said, it was brought on by patching, as it looked perfectly fine when I installed the game and on the 1.03 patches.

That's odd, that identical problem has always been fixed by adjusting the gamma settings (which did indeed change in 1.05). We should look at your video driver next; please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the "Sound devices" section for brevity).

Took me a while to find directx, but eventually managed it.

Okay, updated the driver. While the graphics look cleaner (map overlay modes look even nicer than they already were), the problem still persists, and changing the gamma doesn't do anything to help still.

OK, let's try a full clean reinstall now we have decent drivers in place. If this is Steam: uninstall the game from Steam and move any valued save games elsewhere. Manually delete the CK2 directories from under the Steam AND MyDocuments folders, now reinstall the game via Steam.

If GamersGate: Move valued save games elsewhere, and uninstall the game. Manually delete the CK2 directories from where GG put them and from MyDocuments. Reinstall the game , download 1.05g patch again and apply it.

I have a GG version. Which is/are the important file(s) that I would need to make sure I have in order to do an offline install? I don't have the internet at home unfortunately.

Erm, what? The GG installer IS a downloading process, I don't understand how you ever installed it in the first place with no internet access?

All I can suggest is installing it on a PC that does have internet access, patch to 1.05g, and copy the whole directory structure to a USB key which you then take home.

Yeah, I took my desktop to my folks' place and installed the game there (yes, I was that desperate to obtain the game, it is my first in many years :)). I was under the impression that at some point the installer could be run offline (i.e. after obtaining the necessary files), but perhaps I was mistaken. So the only way to get the game onto an offline PC is to install it onto one that is connected to the net, and then transfer the directories to the offline comp?

So far as I know, yes. Realise of course Paradox do not write the GG installer.

I had the same problem of a whitened terrain after 1.05, and neither of these 'solutions' worked for me. Frankly, I tried everything. Also on GamersGate, and difficult Internet access.

What DID work for me was the replacement of Crusader Kings II\gfx\FX\pdxmap.lua with a new pdxmpa.lua file I found...

That ought to be in the current patch, 1.05g - have you applied that?

Okay, I updated the pdxmpa.lua file with the one suggested by Lord Sam and the brightness has gone away. However, it does feel as if the map graphics are now lower quality than they were before (even in the overlay map modes). Are you certain that is the same file as the one in the latest patch?

I haven't gotten around to a reinstall as I don't have a lot of time and would rather use the little enough I manage to get on my PC to play the game.
