Hey Guys,

This is my first attempt at a Hearts of Iron III AAR. So any feed back is highly appreciated. I look forward to sharing my adventure with you all.

I am playing FTM with the New World Order Mod. I should add that I am playing this game Multiplayer with my brother. He is playing as Argentina, any non trade based interactions with him shall be towards the end of the game I imagine.

Die Broderbond: The Afrikaans Illuminati

It matters not who sits in the Union Building, power does not reside there. Not Lord Clarendon, nor James Hertzog, not even King George V himself run the rule here in South Africa. We do. The captains of industry, the media moguls, bankers, religious leaders, the intelligensia and military generals: The Afrikans Broederbond. A secretive organization started in 1918 after the second Boer War to advance the ideals of Afrikaan nationalism and rid our nation of British interference.​

Nothing in South Africa happens with the approval of the Broederbond. We may be hidden in a cloak of secrecy but our shadow looms over government affairs, the public sector and private business. It was our agents who ensured that in December 1920 the League of Nations voted to hand control of neighbouring Namibia to South Africa. Our influence led to Paliament passing the Status of the Union Act, which declared South Africa to be "a sovereign independent state" finally free from the influence of the British Crown.​

Now, inspired by the sucesses of the former British colonies in the Americas, we have a new ambition. Those thirteen colonies on the East coast of the US rapidly expanded across the continent till the United States strecthed from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific. Today the USA is an international superpower. This is our ambition: the formation of The United States of Afrika.​

HERTZOG ANNOUNCES MODERNIZATION PLANS


Prime Minister James Hertzog announces the 1936 spending budget.​

The 1936 budget has been released and South African Prime Minister James Hertzog has outlined the governments intentions to reform and restructure the economy of our great nation. The great depression and recent droughts in the Transvaal region has seen employment in the agricultural sector steadily falling for the last decade. ​

This rise in unemployment has been a boon for the mining sector, which now provides the back bone of the economy. Trade deals securing the exports of metals such as copper and iron as well as rare materials such as gold mean the nations coffers are slowly increasing. ​

"The development of new technology to aid the mining industry will only benefit the people of South Africa" Hertzog told gathered press. "We are investing heavily in new steel manufacturing processes which will increase the output of mines across the country."​

One of the big issues facing everyday Afrikaans is the competition for work. Many of the available employment opportunities in the country are in the unskilled labour force, be that down a copper mine or working the fields in the farming sector. ​

"We are also working to improve the education system here in South Africa, new schools will be opening across the country in Johannesburg, Durban and Bloemfontein. If we can educate the next generation of citizens to a higher standard we will be able to transform our economy to one focused on Technological advancement rather than manual labour."​

The government also unveiled plans to invest in new technologies including the census tabulation machine and developing radio techs. The response to these announcements have largely welcoming amongst the Afrikaans community.

PS: not being familiar with it, is there something about the NWO mod that makes it applicable to playing South Africa in this situation in particular or minors in general?
 
Welcome to AARland, it is a great place and I hope you'll find much enjoyment here!:)

This looks good so far. A South Africa AAR will be interesting, so I'll see if I can keep an eye on your project.

This is my first play through of the New World Order Mod, so I'm not 100% in what ways it differs from vanilla HOI 3.

I'd been toying with the idea of a United States of Afrika game for some time and the reason I chose to use the NWO mod for this campaign is because of the way it has divided the colonial powers' territory in Africa (and beyond) into puppet states with independence guaranteed.

I had tried a game in Vanilla as Ethiopia and after finally defeating the Italian invaders and conquering Eritrea and Somalia I found I was unable to annex these regions and would have to sail all the way up to Italy and outright conquer them. This way, I can annex say British Kenya without having fully defeated the UK. Theoretically I could annex French Madagascar and then negotiate a white peace with France and keep all the territory I'd annexed.
 
With an election looming early next year we have begun our covert plan to undermine the current democratically elected government of South Africa and replace it with one more sympathetic to our cause.

Prime Minister James Hertzog we can live with. He is a strong advocate of Afrikaan nationalism. It is those around him in the cabinet that are causing us concern. HRH George Villiers the 6th Lord Clarendon was hand-picked by the British government as a mouthpiece for the United Kingdom.




Jan Smuts must be removed from Office.​

Then we have the traitor Jan Smuts. He currently holds six positions in the cabinet, including Foriegn Secretary, Minister of Security and Minister of Intelligence. This does not please us. During The Boer War Smuts fought alongside his Afrikaans brothers, protecting The Orange Free State and Transvaal from the British. For this he earned our respect. But then during the Great War Smuts betrayed his Afrikaans heritage and fought alongside the British. We cannot allow this blatant Anglophile to have so much power in the government.

Such is the power we wield in die Broederbond. We run the factories that produce the goods the people need. By cutting the production of consumer goods the general populace is starting to grow angry and this in turn is leading to public unrest. This combined with negative stories about the government in Die Burger, a national newspaper founded by prominent Broederbond member D.F. Malan, is seeing the governments' approval ratings plummeting.

We have also identified the need for an increase in military spending. We have been troubled by the goings-on in East Africa where open warfare is raging between the Kingdom of Italy and the Ethiopia. Whilst the fighting may be on the other side of the continent, some 5000km away it is a stark reminder that, with their advanced navies, the colonial powers can still reach distant lands like ours.
 
So far just words. Actions must surely follow.

Ah, makes sense. Will also be interested to see what happens in the rest of the world under this mod.

Oh you can count on it. Just have to wait for that pesky neutrality to tick down so we can commence with Operation Donder Klapp and Operation Bliksem. Also, my game time is restricted to when my brother is available too (is mp remember...)

SOUTH AFRICA UNVIEL NEW MILITARY UNITS IN DURBAN​

April 22 1936​

Minister for Defence, Jan Smuts, has today unveiled the first new units in a sweeping modernization of the South African Army. The 1st SA Infantry Division and 2nd SA Infantry Division represent a change in policy for the Government. Until now the defence of our great nation had fallen to Boer War veterans turned farmers with rifles left over from The Great War.

"Our hands were forced into this," Smuts explained "Italian aggressions against the Ethopian Empire caused us to review our military policy. We found it to be lacking somewhat. The eventual annexation of Ethiopia into The Kingdom of Italy proves we were right to invest in our army."

Smuts also announced a change in conscription laws moving away from a voluntary army enacting a 'Two-year Draft'. "Its not ideal" The minister explained "but we need the officers. We will be returning to a volunteer force as soon as possible."

This policy shift, towards militarization, reflects a growing trend around the world today. Already this year two major wars have been fought - the 2nd Second Italo-Abyssinian War and the Spanish Civil War.

What had started as a civil war between Spanish Republicans and Nationalists soon became a proxy war between the German Reich and the U.S.S.R. If this was any signal of how a potential future conflict between these two great powers would go: it does not look for for Hitler and the National Socailist Party.


The Republicans won the civil war. First blood goes to Stalin.
 
Those troops may yet have other uses, I imagine.

OSSEWABRANDWAG WIN IN TIGHT ELECTION​

In one of the closest fought elections in South African history the far right party Ossewabrandwag and their leader J. F. van Rensburg have shocked the political commentators of the world by narrowly defeating the United Party and winning the right to form the next government.

When polls closed on Sunday night and the ballots were counted it was announced the Ossewabrandwag had secured an impressive 32% of the vote share. While this put the Ossewabrandwag ahead of the United Party (29%) and the Dominion Party (24%) it was not enough to secure an outright majority in the House of Assembly.

Negotiations went on for hours during the night, but this morning J. F. van Rensburg emerged declaring that the Ossewabrandwag had agreed to form a coalition with the National Purified Party. As part of this agreement National Purified Party leader J.R. Strijidom has been named Minister of Security and other members of his party have been promised cabinet positions in exchange for their support in the House of Assembly.

Van Rensburg had campaigned on a platform of Anti-British rhetoric vowing to end South Africas long-running association with the United Kingdom and to aggressively pursue the interests of the Afrikaans people. The Ossewabrandwag was established in commemoration of the Great Trek (the migration of Boers to the interior). Most of the migrants traveled in ox-drawn wagons, hence the group's name.

"We stand for Christian Nationalism which is an ally of National Socialism. You can call this anti-democratic principle dictatorship if you wish. In Italy, it is called Fascism, in Germany National Socialism and in South Africa, Christian Nationalism”. The new Prime Minister explained.

Liberal thinkers in South Africa have expressed concerns about what a coalition between two of the nations most far right parties could entail for normal people. Suggestions have been made that the Ossewabrandwag and The National Purified Party could enforce more repressive laws or remove press freedoms.
