I'm having a little problem in loading a couple of save games. On each occasion, all I get is a crowd cheer and the game crashes to desktop before it has finished loading. There are two games because I had the problem yesterday so I was forced to replay part of the game up to around the same period. But now I have the same problem with both games.

Any ideas? Or have I missed something in the manual that you should never save a game as Portugal in 1654 while at war? Only it's really starting to annoy me since these wars are tedious affairs these days with quite a few medium fortresses to deal with.

Just for info, I tried defragmenting but still the same "Cheer-Crash".

I think you may be out of luck for this particular game and have to start over judging from your comments. You can try starting from an earlier saved game but looks like you tried that already. Maybe go down a differnt path (no war) til you're past the period where it crashes.

BTW, there's a thread over in the General Discussions you'll want to check out :D

Seems to crash after a certain number of time playing the game.

The faster you play, the likelier you'll get a crash in your game. Play at max 1 min=8months and it will crash only after 2-3 hours. 1min=1month produces almost no crash, except, from time to time, when an event is occuring and you press the history button.

Altough the same result, the two crash seems to be "independant".

I had similiar problem, but i noticed when it went to the desk top the music still playes, I went to my save game, turned off the music in options, replayed and when it got to the time where it would crash to desk top continusouly, it just kept playing thru. I went back turned music back on, replayed again, this time it again crashed and sent me to desk top. Again turned music off, no prolem, kept playing. I don't know if this will help you or if it will continue to play, but you might want to try turning off the music in options and see what happens.

:(
My desktop crashes were usually between 1600-1646, but as I said earlier, I turned off the music in options and this so far has worked and I am now in 1726 with no more desktop or other crashes. Also found that un-checking in messages, message box-pause, appeared to have stopped the time freeze crash. I don't know if this will help you or not, other posts seem to have same problems but I don't know if it depends on your system or not. I'm running 733, 128RDRAM, 64 DDR Geoforce, Win 98 2ED, Dell. Good luck
