You could also do where techs are around 10 to research, but raise the "researching tech before it's time" penalty. So the 1995 tech is easier to research in 1995, but nigh-impossible in 1993, for example.

I think it's handled in some of the files, I'll look.
E: Yep, misc.txt:

Code:
research = {
# Blueprint Bonus
	2.0
# Pre-Historical Date Mod (value * days prior to historical date. Lower limit for the total is -0.9. )
	-0.00125
# After-Historical Date Mod (value * days after to historical date. limit for the total is 1.50. )
	0.00050

}

My favorite WW2-era mod (Luxor's Compendium) uses

Code:
# Pre-Historical Date Mod (value * days prior to historical date. Lower limit for the total is -0.9. )
	-0.003

and it is definitely a pain to research ahead more than a year.

You also had countries, like the US, completely cease automobile construction and have drastic cutbacks on consumer goods in WW2 in order to increase production. I like to think of IC as a max total economic output, and I don't see a country like the US (or even the USSR) returning to WW2 level rationing in the 1990's, at least not without large dissent costs. Can a daily "offmap" dissent penalty be added/removed via event?

I don't know about that. You could have a big negative tech IC modifier (after the Cold War, smaller before), which could then be removed at the cost of dissent. Something like "Gearing up for War" in Vanilla except with more costs.

Slowly the US is coming into shape. About 80% done with US ministers 1990-2000.

BTW, what do ya'll prefer as the picture for George W. Bush?

I like the one that makes him looks the most clueless...... oh that all of em my bad.

The idea was for a "soft cap" on military units for the majors. Something like ~70 divisions for the US (aka over 2x the size of the current US Army). Unfortunately, there's no way i know of to get the AI to follow the rules.

HOI games for me always seem to degrade into everyone having a zillion units, and if we're planning a 30 year + scenario....

For non-conscription armies, lower manpower. You can also tweak AI build priorities to make more expensive stuff, at RL-like ratios.

Additional thanks to:
Zimon - For his resource icons
Killerrabbit and the MDS team - allowing me to use certain events and flags
nomonhan - Extended tech team.
Kudos for the mod, but you didn't mention my supply and oil meters... :(

For the 2000, 2004, and 2008 US Election Events, I had to do a "reboot" in 2000 because things where spiraling out of control (a complex chain for 2000 could take upwards of 60 events to do it "right"). So the 2000 US Election will be between McCain and George W. Bush for the Republican nomination (generally historical), and Al Gore will be the Democratic nominee in all cases (depending on the choices in the 1992+1996 events, he could be anything from a failed former candidate, to President running for reelection in 2000)

In any case, in the 2004 election, if the Republican wins in 2000(either Bush or McCain), they get an easy win in the primary (Historical for Bush). The Democrats can go with John Kerry (historical), Howard Dean, or Fr. Gen. Wesley Clark. The reason for no Al Gore is because, since if he had won in 1996, he would be ineligible to run again in 2004. This makes things easier for me to program.

In 2008, we have a similar but more serious problem, with McCain being possible to win in 2000+2004, he also could not run in 2008. Historically, however, he wasn't elected and did run in 2008. However I also figure if he won in 2000, lost re-election in 2004, he wouldn't run in 2008. So if McCain wins in 2000 a Republican Primary will happen Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, Mike Huckabee, and Ron Paul. If McCain won in 2004 only (and is running for re-election), he will face token opposition only from from Ron Paul. If things go historical the Republican nominees will be John McCain, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, Mike Huckabee, and Ron Paul. The Democratic Nominees will be Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton.

This means the total US Election event series from 1992-2008 will be 71 events long. That epic enough for ya'll?

Well, you forgot about the possibility of alien space bats flying down and mind-controlling the citizens of the US into voting for Kucinich or Nader or...

J/k, great job!

Dont forget the The Church of the Flying spagetti monster coming to power

For the election events, I have been setting it so the primary events "sleep" the incorrect events, leaving only one option, which is based upon who won the primaries. For example:

Code:
	action_a = {
		name = "Renominate President George H. W. Bush"
		ai_chance = 90
		command = { type = sleepevent which = 509 }
		command = { type = sleepevent which = 510 }
		command = { type = sleepevent which = 511 }
		command = { type = sleepevent which = 512 }
		command = { type = sleepevent which = 513 }
		command = { type = sleepevent which = 514 }
	}

Sleeps all the events with Pat Buchanan as the Republican Nominee. Likewise, selecting the option to Nominate Pat Buchanan sleeps all the events with Bush as the 1992 nominee. I have yet to test this ingame. Will this work as a 99%+ reliable system?

Pat Buchanan everyone's favorite Isolationist.

I was reading some news sites tonight and I saw that the leader of South Africa's AWB party was murdered and that got my mind working event wise. In 1990 the South African government after the end of the Border war began negotiations which led to in 1994 the abolition of Apartheid and the Election of Nelson Mandella. But Could have the outcome been different could something along the lines of Larry Bonds book Vortex happen. Its a possiblity that could have interesting implications.
