Lol not really the biggest AAR more a little post about an odd game i had as Canada in the latest build of CORE (0.85?), i only used two cheats manpower (though in effect I only used 1000 to reflect the mobilisation as the value never fell below 4000, other nations get a lot through events that lesser ones don't.)
Also i couped at the beginning to become facist, I was anticipating a "Democratic nation" style choice like there is for USA and United Kingdom..
So anyway there I was as Canada and I thought.. wait a minute, I'm sitting here with the largest IC basin in the world to my south, defended by 3 divisions and a division of cavalry. So i built myself 3 Divisions and Motorised Infantry and moved in as soon as they'd built up their org. I managed to get quite few, only losing Winnipeg and taking all of the west coast, and the Northeast (the liberal areas in fact) I thought I was a gonner when militia's started popping up (I myself had 12 odd regular vanilla infantry in training) but thanks to the most startling news aid seemed at hand.
Yes, that's right, my allies actually helped me overseas! In came Belgian, French and British troops, they amounted to by the end of the war some 40 French Divisions, with say, 25-30 British and about the same amount of Belgians. These troops were invaluable in shoring up the land I'd taken in the west and defending the frontier against Yankee counter-attacks.
Then it devolved into trench warfare, noone moved much, attacks were thwarted, Ottowa fell to be retaken soon after, but Detroit held out against 6 odd massive assults throughout the course of the war. D.C was never retaken by the Yankee's but they held onto Charlestown for a couple of years at least. Things were pretty dead heat for two years, the only gains being made in North Carolina and Texas.. these are Canadian gains. The US Army comprised of huge numbers of low org Militia unable to attack without losing too much org as to be effective. The Canadian Army consisted of enough allied forces to spread thinly enough to protect the borders and make some attacks.
However Cananda was utilising it's new industries to train new Motorised divisons and research better weapons.. when the 150mm Howitzer and 80mm Heavy Mortar joined the Canadian forces it was a god-send. Canadian forces with artillery brigades spearhead massive assults across the states, Texas fell, then Charlestown and finally after years, those two places on the western fringe of the Great lakes and Detroit! Then came the real desicive turning point in the war, the two battles of Cleveland. Over 200 divisons met and fought over this city, the Canadians outnumbered 3-to-1. The first battle went technically for the States, the Canadians withdrew with rather heavy losses, particularly on the Militia General Service units. The 2nd battle followed several months later and saw the US forces well and truely beaten. They took huge losses and it was about this time I imagine their economy finally packed in. The south was moped up, Florida falling before the mid-west was finally assualted with token resistance.
In four bloody years Canada had risen to become overlord of North America, her war heroes had become experience Generals capable of matching those of other nations (maybe not Germany's unrivaled officer corps) I was heartily glad and Canada went full tilt on Naval technology (and all tech possible.. we have US IC power!) Unfortunately inept French defence of liberated Italy and France caused Canada to abort it's liberation of Europe after having been cut off, however all divisions safely withdrew and are currently in the United Kingdom waiting to invade once more!
Oh as an aside two other unusual things happened.. firstly the Soviet's invaded and annexed Poland in '38/'39 before Germany could, and Operation Sealion was initiated, with Germany taking all of England and Wales before being driven into the Sea by a ferocious British Army returned home from the war in North America as well as those ver so brave home guards. Everyone was at war with everyone, though the Pacific was quiet.. Canada has only got 24 Transport Flottillas after all....
